Sunny morning. Very high chance of showers, most likely in the late afternoon and evening. Winds northerly and light increasing to 20 to 30 km/h in the morning then increasing to 35 km/h before turning westerly 20 to 30 km/h in the late afternoon.

2-7mm

Wet!!

Would have liked Hewett or Lord in instead of one of Byrne or Evans, but then again, get in forward and lock it in may well give us plenty of shots at goal.

I think we will win this.

No Moore, Sidebum and De Goey for the Pois.

This is all set up for another embarrassing loss...

We may be a little too tall for a wet night... expect a late change?

Gov has been selected at CHB

Pitto needs a chop out and Lewis will provide that.
Both Lewis and Pitto can beat Oscar Steene in the wet.
Hopefully Cripps gets ball on a platter and the clearance

Williams, Walsh and smith can feed off him with speed.

We have 4 smalls who do alot of work upfield and back:
Ainsworth, Hayward, Byrne, Evans and a bit of Smith as the 5th small swapping from there.

Looks balanced.

Lets hope the midfield brings on the heat for 4 quarters and provide plenty of support the defence.
High HF's Ainsworth and Hayward should provide good options for link up from defence.

Team looks good for conditions for me.

4 quarters.

Spewing I decided not to attend game.

Yep selections as expected
Not much imagination here
Hardly surprising
We are a big chance because Collingwood find it hard to score
In saying this reckon I would have around 5 players from the 2 s ahead of the senior team
Interesting Hewett isn’t even an emergency
Pitto could be in for an interesting night
Will have his hands full with Steene

Collingwood will spread the field and move the ball around by foot and hand. I don't have the confidence that some do because reviewing the previous games, our system hasn't evolved to counter. If they start to win the contested ball and use it on the outside, it will be another same ol, same ol.

Let's see if by round 6, our coaches are willing to change it up. At least selections are giving us more run and carry just need now to utilise the running players.

How have they added in more run and carry?

Because he helped us get rid of Curnow. For that we are indebted to him for the next five years.

No Hewett or Lord through the middle. Ollie and Carroll to the wings. Newman, Cowan join Florent back. Byrne and Evans off the bench. Williams and Cerra more midfield.

What I would like to see without looking at their possible team.

Following: Pitto Walsh Smith
Bench: Williams Cerra L.Young E Hollands Lord

In: Weitering Dean Saad F.Young Hayward Lord
Out: Boyd Byrne Derksen Kemp HOK Cowan

That's pretty close to how I would like it.

Our lowest ranked players last week according to Supercoach were Byrne, Derkson, McKay, O'Keeffe, Cowan, Boyd and Kemp. I'm not sure if you were looking at that. You have got rid of six of them and kept McKay. Let's hope he turns his form around.

I'd like to see Wilson over Saad. Hewitt hasn't done much wrong, but they could bring in Lord as you've suggested. It would be nice to see Flynn in and a more dynamic forward line.

That's six changes. Vossy tends to only do two. So let's see what happens.

We need a solution for when Cripps is resting on the bench. We went to water last week. Jagga needs more midfield time.

Interesting, I don't usually look at those rankings.
My reasons were based on eye test, stats and the need for more firepower in F50 and better defenders.
Byrne needs a rest, he was a bit absent last week.
Derksen needs to settle into the team a bit more, he's a good stop gap but when Weiters and Dean are available he's out.
McKay, as he probably knows he's not that replaceable.
HOK had a stinker.
Cowan, this was a tough one as he had 400+meters gained but he still made costly errors (55% DE), plus Saad can be much more damaging off half back.
Boyd, not sure what is up with him but his kicking let him down a few times last week, ultimately he just had no impact.
Kemp, although he had 2 goal assists and he was a bit of a decoy target, he is just not damaging at all as the 2nd or 3rd banana. Maybe a rest in the 2s might redirect his focus.
I would've liked to bring Ison in for a run, but not this game.

Hewett unlucky again unless we take a leaf out of Essendons* book.
Last week the cheats* showed how a contested game with chip kicking and maintaining possession can shut down the fast running teams.
They had 100 more disposals, 80 more kicks, 60 more marks, with similar handballs and i50s.
But where it counts they had 13% more efficiency and 4 more tackles i50.
Because our transition is so slow at times we really need to focus on keeping McKay in F50 as well as McLovin and have the mids, wings and half forwards just chip it around with the backs if necessary until they find a target or a better chance for the smalls to crumb at the feet of the McKay or Pitto/L.young.
The players need to be able to asses when they can push forward at all costs and when they should hold the ball up and chip around.
Something they have seemed to struggle with a fair bit the last 2 years.
The only downside to this plan is our players inability to kick the ball to each other and hit them lace out.
It is defiantly a way to dismantle them and plays into our 1 wood.
Something to consider either way and I'm not sure if it will work with every one of the faster teams.
But it is definitely worth taking the chip kicking possession game on a little more when the flow is against us and the opposition is having their usual run on us.
We might be able to stay in the game a bit longer in those lull times.

Great summary sidey. I like your team. I share same thoughts re Cowan. He was a good accurate long kick, and has become a desperate bomber of the ball. There's the metres gained. He hasn't been playing well this year. Not even in the VFL. I think jis timing in the air is improving; he was a bit off previous weeks. Sadly, I think he's lost some pace. I'd take Saads pace and elusiveness to find time to hit a target than Cowan's reckless kicking.

I really thought he was the missing key in the forwardline and in his first game back, in spectacles and knee bandage, he showed his tricks, but he hasnt showed form with his kicking. He couldn't miss the goals last year. That soda he missed in the last confirmed to me he's not 100% back, and his short passes are not hitting tits and falling short. He needs the kicking weapon and I want him hungrier than that. I have Evans ahead of Byrne at the minute, and I'd try Fynn ahead of Evans this week, but I can't pass on Hayward (who knows he owes us, and is better than his H&A form). Who else to drop for Fynn?

Evans needs to put his goggles back on, they gave him a better look at the game.

We didn't have Hewitt or Lord in the last game. The rest of those you named we did have. So what's changed?

We brought in Weitering, Dean and Hayward. I'm just wondering which one of those adds to our run and carry.

Adding to our run and carry would be bringing in Wilson, Saad, Cottrell or Chesser, but we didn't do that.

Lord for Byrne. I agree with bondi that Jagga could use a game as small forward rotating through the centre after some increasing struggles as full time mid.
I'd make Hayward earn his spot via the 2s. Been ordinary and cost us the Norf game with indiscipline.
I feel like Boyd deserves another chance, just needs to engage the brain a bit more. I wouldn't sook if he was replaced by Saad, both players have their pros and cons, might depend on match ups. Who takes Elliott, and is he not quite the same player with another year and a new contract under his belt?

surely Newman takes Elliot?
