1 key back who is heartless
1 key forward who is flaky and can't kick
1 barely AFL standard ruckman
3 bulls in midfield with no speed
No small forward of quality
A plethora or Half back flankers most can't break lines
A plethora of half forward flankers who don't hit the scoreboard
4 wingers who don't impact
20 odd ball butcherers
20 odd players who can't make a tackle
No 1 draft pick who can't break a tag or kick
A barge arse captain who has been beaten into submission

The list is a bloody shambles

It is a miracle that we are in games at all

If you want to find positives, we have put ourselves in winning positions every game. An incompetent playing list could not do that. If we can just close out one match with assurance against a good side, maybe we can break the spell.

We're not top 6... but we shouldn't be bottom 6

I think the worst thought I’ve had since last night is the following…

Is there any list in the AFL I wouldn’t currently swap for ours?

The only one I can come up with is Essendon*.

Collingwood. They have 1 good player under 26 years of age. I'd take Essendon* before them.

Yeah I nearly added them but then decided their one good player was worth three of ours…

If we had three that is…

Seriously, it is an absolute outrage that we have had to give up 2 first rounders for Dean and are going to have to give up two first rounders for Cody.
One year after Gold Coast was able to pick up multiple first rounders, as did Brisbane, and only a couple of years after Brisbane could pick up a raft of premium father sons whilst at the top-end of the ladder, and collingwood got nick daicos for way unders. Not to mention, the AFL granting West Coast a freebie with the Oscar Allen compensation. And similar when they enable Gold Coast to pick up Rowell and Anderson because they were mates.

So, in a nutshell, Brisbane, Gold Coast and West Coast have been effectively been handed 'half-price' top 10 draftees, while Carlton, Essendon** and Port are going to have to pay double.

And... although Harry Dean is a great pick up, I very much doubt he would have been picked up or bidded at no.3 if he wasn't linked to Carlton. I do not believe for a second that no-one really wanted Daicos until pick 4 (although, I will grant that it looks to have been an amazing year for top end talent...).

What really annoys me about the proposed changes to the father son draft rules is that the person proposing them has just left a club that recruited both Ashcroft brothers at much more lenient terms. For Levi the Lions gave up a number of picks in the 40's. Yet we quite likely will not be able to match with the 2 first round picks and AFL (Greg Swann) has indicated that clubs can only use 2 picks to match FS.

In years gone by Geelong won premierships in 2007, 2009 and 2011 with FS selections in the 40's or higher. They were not average players - Gary Ablett Jnr with pick 40 and Nathan Ablett at pick 49 in 2001 draft, Tom Hawkins pick 41 in 2006, J Bews in 2011 with pick 86, Mathew Scarlett with pick 45 in 1995.

And the AFL has managed the process extremely poorly. A more logical arrangement would be to provide a period wgen clubs can plan for future FS's by being able to swap future picks for a time in advance. Is seems that we have to gues what the rules might be.

I solved the whole draft fairness problem earlier in this thread.

I think what I'll do is ring up radio talk back, explain in long winded sentences what it is, confuse Dwayne or Viiiiney, and then get cut off.

The father son bidding should have stayed the same.
It is the academy players that were treated the same as father sons which has buggered the system.

Apparently you can go into deficit.
