Updated with Evans ruled out:

Backs
Dean, Florent, McGovern, Saad, L.Young, Weitering, Williams (I/C)

Wings
Chesser, O.Hollands, E.Hollands (I/C)

Rucks
Pittonet, Reidy (I/C)

Mids
Cripps, Hewitt, Walsh, Lord (I/C)

Forwards
Ainsworth, Fogarty, Hayward, Kemp, McKay, Smith, Byrne (I/C)

I don’t see Weitering, L.Young & Derksen all playing. I would have Young ahead of Derksen. For now. Not a popular opinion, but there you are…

Fair enough, Anything is possibly possible
I really like Young circa 2026. He’s good different.

McDonald is similar height to Young and 5-6cm taller than Derksen.
I really think Derksen belongs in this team, but not against McDonald. Maybe not.

Despite a stellar first pre-season, no Opening Round debut tomorrow night for Carlton young gun Talor Byrne.

Carlton opting for more experience in their small forward brigade to take on Sydney. Was well-liked by more than a few to replace Francis Evans (medial strain) @FOXFOOTY

Don't know if I'm being unrealistic, but I like our chances against the Swans.
I thouhgt I'd come back to Talking Carlton and spread some blue love.
GO BLUES in 2026!

Fair enough. He’s not able to run out a full game yet so it’s a risk especially against a tough opponent.

Chesser is in - interesting, guessing he’ll play a defensive role in the middle against one of their big 3?

So if Byrne is not in for Evans then it is either Derkson, Moir or Boyd. I guess we'll soon find out.

More than likely Moir. He hasn't earnt the spot IMO. His performances in the pre-season don't warrant selection. The kid (Byrne) was much better and deserved the spot.

Correct. Moir goes missing too much.

Talor doesn't have 4 quarters in him yet. A VFL practice match against a good Bulldogs side on Friday will give everyone a good guide to where he's at. Plenty of time.

Yeah, I thought we looked a bit taller down back than usual too.

Maybe Gov and Young will do stints up forward? I liked Young in the forward line.

But my guess is he's a straight swap for Cowan once he's fit.

I was pretty near the pin! I had Byrne instead of Moir but otherwise it’s the same.

Dont want to sound negative. But why is Forgarty and auto selection. Why is McGovern and auto selection. ? Poor Wade has done everything asked of him and yet doesnt get his 1st game. Byrne performed much better than Fogarty and Moir for that matter.

This is what i meant in my earlier posts about selection integrity.

Dont care if players need time etc. They have performed and thats all that matters.

Agree Drewgirl. Saad and McGovern have not earnt their spot this preseason compared to others like Boyd and Byrne would have been a perfect piece on the SCG. The kid has proven he knows how to score and with limited opportunities. Exactly the type that would have complemented Ainsworth, Elijah and Hayward.

This is why I'm frustrated with Voss.
