I’ve broken ribs three times.

Six weeks.

But then Dermot Brereton was over his in seven seconds in 89 so what do I know?

6 weeks!!!
Must have been bad breaks.
Did the broken rib go through your lung?

:-) Dermot isn't human, in more ways than one.

How quickly did your broken ribs heal?

Agree completely. The AFL are a joke. This is reason State of Origin died, because clubs didn't want their good players to get injured.
It makes me sick reading some comments online about it. Sick people think it is funny.

It's the players who wanted it most, the movement to restart it was player driven, well according to Gary Lyon and the AFL's media team reporting, so take with a bag of salt. But we're paying the players so they should be listening to the clubs.

I've fractured a thumb playing cricket and that was six weeks. I think bone fractures are generally that long. What we don't want is bone shattering. That would obviously take longer.

I'd rather an All Star game at the end of the season. Take them from the 16 clubs not playing in the grand final and play in on the Thursday or Friday night. Injuries are less of a concern then too.

I think everyone is different. There’s also severity of damage to consider, along with speed to heal, recovery, pain threshold, management and even stupidity.
…Not all rib injuries are the same. Yours sounds very painful.

I’ve broken my sternum from surfing, when I was in my teens. That’s another story.

I was 30yo and still playing. I got lined up from by a player running who had to be running full pelt from Full back at me. I thought he was too far away and I opened up my ribs to mark and X-ray showed his knee cracked a couple ribs. Breathing was painful.

Hospital gave me Panadol Fortes. Dropped a couple every couple hours, went to INXS concert, then back to my club for a few Jacks. Went home with a beautiful blonde. When I woke up, I couldn’t move. Chick got me the Panadol Fortes and away I went. Played footy 3 weeks later. A bit tender but….wanted to play.

Skiing the last 6 weeks with a broken bone in foot, in tight in my ski boot, no ACL, no meniscus, bone to bone, needed a couple Panadols and 2 Voltarins and I skied 6 days in a row till fatigue set in. A couple days rest, a few bottles of wine a day, a shag and rest, and I was back on the slopes. Rinse repeat. Thereafter skied 2 days on, one day off. I’m 65yo, so it’s ok to feel stiff.

If Weiters has cracked ribs, well, imo, he is a tough boy, and has a bit of muscle to withstand much of the force, and he’s had a solid preseason, he should be OK for round 1, with maybe some padding….thats IF……

By the way, I should add, I’m stupid.

All players love playing Rep footy. AFL players are no different.
All Australian is just a named team. No action. Players want to show their wares against the best with the best. It’s a badge of honour and an incredible opportunity for a sportsman.

I like your All Stars idea because it’s still the best players playing pure footy. Still a great exhibition of our great game.

What I saw today is players not yet match fit. It showed in the 2nd half. But that first half was great to watch.

For VFL players who played for weak teams, Harvey, Flower….the state of origin was their GF and only chance to show what they could do with good players around them. We got to see that too. Entertainment.

I love State of Origin NRL and AFL. Injury is just a part of footy. No one wants to see them, and footy is an accident waiting to happen.

Let’s remember footy is entertainment ..H&A, Finals and SOO.
Thanks for the entertainment lads.
Weiters will be back. Hopefully to give Charlie a bath.

Yep.

Happens a lot.

Not all cracked ribs are made public knowledge for obvious reason

We simply must be cursed. Was there tonight. Sat there in stunned silence the whole time after Weiters went down. Just knew it would be bad. Because Carlton.

That’s an explicit summary. Shit.

Was hoping it would be just cracked ribs and bruised shoulder worse case.

Could see the impact on his shoulder, but he moved it when on stretcher, thus thought collar bone couldnt be broken.

But my biggest concern was broken ribs which have a tendency to puncture a lung. That could be two months recovery.

Haven’t slept all night, jet lagged. Kept refreshing open pages for better news. Fingers crossed.
