Just to make Drew and Nat happy I preface this by saying that this will not happen, but, it was an Interesting conversation on SEN about the worth of Curnow to the Swans. i.e How much do they want him? Their forward line, aside from Heeney, is rubbish.

With Carlton in the Box seat, the hypothetical suggestion was - What is more important to the needs of both clubs. Would Chad Warner be more important than Curnow at the Swans and vice versa.

At just 24, IMHO I think Warner could fix alot of Carlton problems. Charlie at his best is elite, but Warner is explosive and has 6+ years left. Charlie at 29 in Feb and with a list of injuries might have 3 or 4 left.

They suggested anything other than Warner would be a Hard NO!

Just some BS conversation about what would you except for Charlie. Drew it is just fun, so don't get bent out of shape.

I thought the Swans had already stated that Warner was untouchable.

Carlton has also said as much about Charlie. At the end of the day he has got 4 years to run on his contract. Realistically, Sydney would need to be shelling out the farm and then some for us to even remotely consider it

We will need to get rid of Pick #9 in case of an early bid on Dean. Gold Coast will struggle to obtain enough points for their 3 academy players so would likely pay a fair price for this draft selection. I was thinking a future first plus a player or 2nd rounder.
With the new points system I suspect picks #25, #35 and #43 will be needed to acquire Dean.

Another suggestion on the trade bell for Curnow to Sydney was that we get their 1st pick this year, a future 1st round and Logan McDonald.
Maybe also Ollie Florent but I can’t remember that. Even without Florent, I’d consider this.
I would also consider Gulden or Warner plus a future first or something like that.

I would prefer that Curnow stays. However, I suspect his priorities are not really on footy and he will retire early-ish.
Also, I think Harry can hold down the primary key forward post. Kind of like Roughead post-Buddy, Harry always presents, creates contests, tackles and chases. And I think he is more likely than Charlie to follow team plans. If we can get a solid no.2 like Logan, I think we will be good.

PS. I am very worried about this talk of taking away 1st round father-son picks next year when Walker hits the draft!
PPS. I will spew if the AFL gives West Coast a leg up after it knowingly traded away its future for another shot at a flag only a few years ago AND it has only been 7 yrs since they actually won a flag!!

I have a revelation. I no longer care about JSOS and TDK. Or Curnow if we get a kings ransom.

Problem is i just done trust us as the moment to make the right decisions and not to roll over and be weak.

My focus is now who we get, what we do and the Father son stuff.

This talk about getting rid of Pick 9 in case we get an early pick on Dean is wrong thinking. Will you do the same next year if we get an early pick on Cody Walker? We should keep Pick 9 precisely because we will get an early bid on Dean.

Cal Twomey in his latest Phantom Form Guide has Dean ranked at 8. That is 1443 points. We get a 10% discount for father-son (it used to be 20%). So that means we need 1299 points.

The TDK pick will not be Pick 9. Oscar Allen will push it out one place. Then there is Uwland, Patterson and Annable that will push it out three more places, although Gold Coast will have to use their current Pick 6 to pay for Uwland. So, the TDK pick will end up around Pick 12. That will give us 1140 points. That is not enough to get Harry Dean.

We will then have to go to the JSOS compo pick. Assuming band 2 that will get us a pick at the end of round 1. Initially, that is Pick 19. The Allen and TDK compo picks push that out to Pick 21. Will there be any other compo picks? Uwland, Patterson, Annable and King (potentially) will push that out to Pick 25. However, Gold Coast will have to use Picks 6, 10 and 15 to pay for their academy picks and Brisbane will have to use Pick 16. So that may take the JSOS pick back to 21 which is 721 points. Taking 159 points from this to complete the Harry Dean pick up will leave us with 562 points or Pick 27. That will still leave us with a pick to get another good player like Zac McCarthy (according to Cal Twomey) and guess what he is a ruckman at 198cm. That would be nice replacement for TDK.

Our current picks are 34 (360 points), 44 (167 points) and 62 (0 points). They will move around given earlier selections. Assuming that they stay the same that is a total of 527 points. If you use the JSOS pick that totals 1248 points. That will get you Harry Dean, but all of your good picks are gone. Your next one is 62. Could we get earlier picks if we trade away players like McGovern and Motlop? Maybe, but don't count on it.

We should use the compo picks as gifts to get good young players into the club. Don't fret them away.

Chad Warner & two first round draft picks would be about the only way you could even entertain it, but doesn't Warner want to go back to WA anyway? You would have to win significantly to make up for all the years the Swans have basically run roughshod over the competition.

People forget that to get Chris Judd, Carlton gave up Josh Kennedy (an elite player in the making) , pick 3 and pick 20. Plus Kennedy ended up playing 15 years for the Eagles.
You want that type of mammoth deal to release a star franchise player.

Curnow is a two-time Coleman Medallist...how many players are there that have won two Coleman Medals out there right now? Him and Cameron. That's it.

And Nathan Buckley nonchantly just states "a first (round draft pick) and a player would probably be about right, I reckon." what a load of bollocks. Curnow's a two-time Coleman medallist.
Carlton would lose significantly on such a Nathan Buckley nonchalant deal.

Look you would have to win significantly even to entertain helping out the Swans. They don't have many elite players left in their team and I believe might/maybe/hopefully finally be heading for a fall after 20 years or whatever of being a perennial finalist. They don't have Longmire as coach, Dane Rampe close to the end & Luke Parker has left. Maybe it is finally turning.

Why isn't Carlton focusing on getting a new ruckman anyway? Pittonet just isn't good enough.

Band 3:

Spargo - pick 24 (becomes 27 at end of FA period)
Worpel - pick 31 (becomes 35 at end of FA period)


At the end of the FA period, we have: 10, 22, 39, 49, 67 (near enough 2,300 points).

We’ll look to move that pick 10 into next year, just as the Scum will be actively trying to push their pick 6 into 2027. In the end, I think the draft order will be:

4. West Coast

6. Brisbane (from Essendon*)

I'd be trading pick #9 now that JSOS has left.
It is almost 100% guaranteed SOS will put a bid in for H Dean just before that pick with Jack not being at the club anymore.

ITK on bigfooty believes the Swans are trying to get the Oscar Allen compo (pick #2) off West Coast - presumably to form part of a Curnow trade.
