I have got the Flu at the moment . Rarely get crook so its a bit of a surprise to me . I tell ya , its knocked the bejeezus out of me . And it was so obvious Paddy Cripps had the dreaded lurgey and it showed in his game . Such is the calibre of the man rather than take the easy way out he fronted up and battled on manfully as usual . Weiters was on one leg . Jack was on one leg . No wonder we copped a flogging when you are so severely depleted . .......................... I really am not surprised all things considered that we got beat . What I am surprised about is the way over the top reaction to it . Hard to pull your socks up when you aint wearing any .
And this is why they are not good leaders, especially for a squad with as many kids as ours.
As Fab said on the Prendercast, Cripps is a champion and an inspirational player who will run through walls. But a true leader is one who can get others to run through walls. Cripps doesn't do this. I didn't like his post match interview where he said "yeah, I was crook as yesterday, but I woke up this morning and thought... I just hate missing games of footy". He probably thinks that's a captain's attitude, but what would you think if you were Ben Campo, showing promise as an inside mid in the 2nds, and your captain would rather travel to Adelaide with no lung capacity and go shit the bed (figuratively and maybe literally) than say, "Ben, this is your time, you can do this, show them what you're made of!".
As for Weiters, standing there with his hangdog expression with the doctors before the game... no, I must have my appearance fee and get absolutely smashed by Visentini (ffs! Imagine if that kid could kick a ball) of all people, Harry O'Farrell cannot be trusted, it's me me me!
Shit leaders = shit culture
