Not sure about that Mick.

With Walsh we have 7 on the injury list, well down on this time last year’s my guess. And one of those is soft tissue

Russell was restricted by the Carlton hierarchy in injury treatment/management but despite there interference copped the full blame . Scapegoat for mine .

When AR was hired, he had full control over body and mind.

Slowly (too slowly for some), through no fault of anyone else, he lost it all.

He’s not a hard luck story.

Are you blaming Russell for our injury woes. How can you prove that?

I’m not blaming anyone & I’m not proving anything.

He had full control & things got progressively worse. Then covid cut his budget & things really went to shit.

If I was getting involved in conjecture, I’d remember how he was on record, after the budget cuts, almost happy with himself that players were breaking. Almost as if it were a self-fulfilling prophecy… but that’s just unhealthy.

i do know for a fact when russell came to the club, he started to implement a few things. and was told, "thats not how we do things here"

... so in some areas AR's hands were defs tied. i also know he blew up at the way we (our physios and consultants) treat hammies, using protocols which at the time (2020, covid) were over 20 years old.

russell was also flogging the shit out of players with a training load not very suitable to modern afl and a 25 round season from thurs to sunday - ie possible 5 day breaks.

really, the club and russell were both wrong. only now russell is gone, we continue to see the stench around the club is still there, despite a change of hands in the S&C dept.

cfc is arrogantly stubborn, if nothing else.

Fair enough.

Forgot about Covid's impact.

In hindsight, I think the place was in deep shit after 2015 draft. Recruitment, List Mgt, S & C and Coaching all getting in the way of each other.
I was going over the list of players SOS selected after the 2015 Draft, and have to say, he really stuffed up the list, and we are still paying for it.

Austin has had 5 years to fix it, so he's no better, but if SOS got 25% right Austin wouldnt be trying to plug up holes.

That's the way Braithy . Putting all the blame at Russells feet was just so wrong . Plenty of guilt all round . I'm not sure everything is honky dory .

Nothing from Carlton but….

Harry gave us an update in his podcast.

Hurt knee late vs GWS
Docs thought it would settle down over the bye but didn’t.
Rested another week and didn’t come good for WCE
Doesn’t think he will be right in near future. May be out longer

Heard from somewhere it may have been Carlisle issue and may need clean out.

Doesn’t sound good.

OKeefe has done a hamstring.
It didn’t look like a really bad one bc he was walking on it iced up

We have seen this kid can play at the level.
He is only 20yo and he’s a big unit.

Last game he played 70% playing 3rd tall Fwd/ ruck
This week he lasted almost 60%
He wasn’t ready for big loads or we are only starting to learn about his body

He has had his hammy torn off bone and missed most of 2024
He built up upper body muscle which was impressive but deceiving.
He did another hammy this year, now this

Personally I’d like to see us be extra cautious, and build him up slowly
I’m sure the hammy will be given extra care and attention

Lemmey will play. He’s earned his chance, but I haven’t seen Lemmey ruck.

Yeah , only 20 yo and third time he has done a hammy . Concerning . Yes Bondi , the ultra cautious approach would be the way to go . Also yes to Lemmey , his last three weeks in the Magoo's have shown a lot of improvement and needs to be rewarded . Ditto Billy Wilson .

HOK had a tight hammy in the 2nd qtr.
The experts allowed him to continue playing.

I know it’s not a high grade tear but leaving him on for the inevitable is not looking towards the future, nor a happy ending.

Disappointed for the kid.

Jeez.

No H or Walsh the next 4+ weeks, no Cottrell and probably no Lij for season.

And yes bondi I agree, him & Elijah, no wonder our forward line's been struggling.

The great thing about this is when we win the flag this year it’ll be really well deserved.
