Because they don't play kids for the sake of it.

Because they don't trade in their best veteran players for lottery tickets.

Because they don't sell the farm for... market prices.

The other thing is their culture

A few of ours will be better for the run. Williams, Fantasia, Cinc and Fog . All a bit rusty and should get better. Our youngsters, Carroll, White, Okeefe and Lord also got another big game on the mcg under the belt. Game never in doubt as we kept them at arms reach with ease.
Need to work out what happens next once the short passes get shutdown. We look good until that happens. Grafting goals from that point isnt working out for us.
Keep playing the kids. Reckon we have found a few this year.

Pros:

Another excellent start.
We managed to hold on for a win.
Defence.
Cerra, Haynes, Williams, SOJ and Oli.
Acres and Docherty solid contributors.
Probably the best game I’ve seen from Motlop.
Encouraging games from Lord, Carroll and Hudson.
Cincotta did his job.

Cons:

Didn’t really see anything that convinced me we’re ready to go on a winning streak.
Scoring efficiency dried up again the longer the game went.
Comparative accuracy.
Conceding goals immediately before and after halftime.
Cripps and Weitering quiet again. Walsh faded after quarter time.

Looked more committed than usual. Laid 3 tackles, which is a decent start.

Some men have a problem with women, seems our friend Keogh has a problem with men.

I also love the way he wants to tell us all how popular he is with women.

I'm glass half full about the win. I saw the game through a different lens to others...I went out on the night & just checked scores on my phone.

So when I finally got around to watching it tonight, knowing we won, I watched it without all the tension & anxiety of oh shit shit we could lose this, etc.

We took shit form into this game from the previous 2 weeks, and were better. Not massively better, but turning poor form around can be a bit of a grind & not an automatic 70 point victory. I thought a number of our players had really good games, & I wasn't too dirty on Acres overall.

Wins for the firsts & seconds & no injuries from both games I'm pretty sure. Good opportunity to consolidate against West coast.

Go Blues

Genuine question. “Game never in doubt as we kept them at arms reach with ease”. For real?

We played pretty poorly after qtr time. They were all over us in the third and got to within 6 points with over 5 mins to go. I suggest a majority of us thought at this stage we’d blow it.

I’m rapted we hung on but couldn’t disagree more with ‘we kept them at arms length with ease’.

It definitely wasn't "with ease". I didn't feel a lot of anxiety when they closed it to 6 points but that could have been an emotional self defence move. It felt like ZW's open goal was the sealer, and until then we'd played a good quarter, seemed like our poor 2-3Qs were just us keeping something in reserve to steamroller them. But then we inexplicably switched off, Weitering falconed an own goal, and suddenly we'd given them a chance to win. Then we regained focus and there wasn't much danger the rest of the way. But it's annoying it came to that. * scored 11 goals for the game, and 6 of them came in a couple of 3- minute bursts. That's just not on.

They got within 3 goals of Brisbane at the Gabba. Maybe they're actually not that bad

I had a bunch of scum mates round for dinner and pretty much spent the whole time talking them up. "you guys got so close. Couple of lucky bounces of the ball etc". Feed em the hope. They guzzle it down. Makes the inevitable even more enjoyable.

Particularly given you are no longer employed by the club

Has the club set itself up for at least a grand Final spot
And how important is it to look long term as opposed to to one win against anyone close to you on the ladder half way throughout the season
Because I get the feeling you and Blue Vain have lost the plot
You should be over your sugar hit
It’s 4.20 EST
Because I don’t think you guys understand how frustrated some supporters are that this win is just pre longing the inevitablfalling off the cliff
C’mon guys convince me and Do Do
Oh just as a side note
Dannyboy enjoy your conversation with your Essendon**** mates
Sounds like I wouldn’t fit in
I actually prefer talking to women when it comes to the art of conversation
They seem to have a broader view of the world

so @#$%&! stupid a post - I prefer talking to women...so patrionising, I wonder...do the women enjoy talking to you, that's the question to ask yourself...Oh and maybe listen to the answer rather than your own thoughts. Mind you, you are right, you wouldn't fit in, unless you went to my school in Glenroy in the 60's...idiot.

They do
Most do
I’m sure you have some people that don’t like you either
I’m actually a good listener
One of my ex teacher mates taught at Glenroy
I guess your implying you come from a working class background or something
Anyway it ain’t much of a stupid @#$%&! post

Do you think the club has progressed in the last 10 years
Why is it that a club like Geelong continues to be successful
And we don’t
Not that idiotic a question
By the way you started it

Sorry spent the evening with my wife and then my daughter and her partner arrived home from Alice so had a good chat with them about that...didn't get back online until this morning.

What I implied is that of course you wouldn't fit in given you did not go to the school so. why would you fit into a reunion (such an odd thing you for to say as if you fitting in, or not, meant anything at all) but that is how you rant, useless comments that mean very very little except to somehow inflate that little ego of yours. And you championing yourself (and women) smacks of a "noble savage" type sentiment...how very generous of you towards them...I am sure they are so thankful for your support.

On to football - team is not going well. Doubt it will improve much until some of our players are finally replaced. I am very happy with last year's recruiting and also happy to seem them bide their time in VFL, actually learn the ropes not have them tossed in at the deep end like we seem to have done for the past 20 years.

Despite another fragile showing where our lack of polish going forward again raised its ugly head I was pleased with...
Ollie's game.
Skull's
SOS at fullback just gives us such a better look down back
Motlop showed a lot (and needs to do it again next week)
Beating Essendon* - Glenroy was filled with Essendon* supporters when I was a kid, every second or third kid banging on about the bombers! Always good to beat them.

I worry about Curnow
I felt we didn't miss Harry at all
thought TDK showed why the saints are chasing so hard
and that, as usual, we lacked speed.

How the kids come on (those drafted and yet to be drafted) in the next three years will show whether we are slowly building a better side or about to fall back into the abyss.
I live in hope.

At the ground, I was filthy on the poor 2nd and 3rd quarters. Happy with the win at the final siren because there exists a species called Bombers fans. And it sure beats losing
I thought the last 1/4 was OK. We controlled the majority of it, just didn't take our chances. If Charlie and Motlop kicked straight, the game wouldn't have got close.
There were a lot of positives to take out of the game. The ball movement in the first quarter was what we have been looking for all year. Running, taking the better options, lowering the eyes going into F50. Tick.
But, very early in the 2nd, it was clear that we started to slow the game down. Now the question is, is this instructions from Voss at 1/4 time, or a tightness in the players when they have a comfortable lead with 3/4 to play. We started going for low percentage passes, stopped running, stopped making space etc. If this is Voss trying to control the game, there is no doubt he needs to go. Essendon* rolled a player or two back and we couldn't find a way through. Credit to Hollands for being one of the only players to run straight and though the Essendon* players to change the dimensions of the game.
You can't hold any team for 4 quarters. Every team will create chances. Bombers did and didn't miss when they had a chance.
The problem is we don't have a way of keeping the scoreboard ticking over. That's on the coaching IMO.
Doesnt help when your star FF has a one step snap from 50 for a set shot.
Weitering was struggling against 2 metre, and Guelfi and Gresham always seemed to be loose. Breakdown in defensive structure? Or lack of forward pressure causing quick turnovers?
Saad and Zac drift out of the game too much.

This level of play won't beat a top 4 team, but we can beat those teams because we aren't expected to win. That seems to be an achilles heel of ours.

Pheeeww. I'm glad I only came on here to read the comments today.
Talk about misery and delusion, more delusion than anything.

How about some facts for all the sorry souls out there.
1. We are a fast starting team, we have lead for just about every game at half time this year.
2. The dopes are a slow starting team, they only kicked 1 goal against the reigning Premiers last week also in the first quarter.
3. The dopes also are a strong finishing team, they took the lead against the reigning Premiers in the last quarter the week before.
4. We were on average a more experienced side by 29 games than them, they have youth and speed, we were always going to slow down.

So for those of you who thought we'd come out and slaughter them are seriously overvaluing our team.

I am 100% convinced now Curnow has a kicking problem, whether it is mental or physical I am not sure, but he can no longer kick a set shot, drop punt goal.
Those missed goals from Curnow and Acres (twice) in the last 5min sums up our issues this year, senior players not being able to deliver under pressure is a major issue and has a trickle down effect.
I am also 100% convinced our issue is players not the coach, Voss was showing a lot of frustration in the coaches box during the game and rightly so, something he rarely does.
There was a kick from Hollands with about 7min to go in the first when we had all the momentum and under no pressure he kicked the ball over the head of Williams in the centre to a dopes player, Voss was not impressed. Then Haynes pretty much targeted a dopes player straight after a great intercept mark from the above poor kick.
If you want to start looking at problems with our team, this is where we need to start, not coaching, you can't coach that at this level no matter what system some may think we can implement.
This is 100% on the players.

As for our fade outs.
With more speed and skill added to the team we will get past this.
Missing targets and goals is costly, energy draining and momentum killing.
Contested football, although required at times, is slow, unsustainable and high injury risk.
We have been killing our team each year at the draft table, hopefully this year there is change.

Now for the positive stuff.
I thought Skull had a great 1st game and I actually think in a couple of years he could be the next TDK with his athleticism (maybe not as good, but close).
I hope we play him for the rest of the season.
I thought our midfielders, Cerra especially were great.
Adding some speed in there will make us top 4 level IMO.
Williams up forward makes a massive difference to the forward line, he's creative and rampant.
Motlop showed what Voss sees in him, he played a great game.
Having Cinc back is what we are missing, someone who can shut down the oppositions most damaging player.
JSOS, we have an almost complete defence with him in there.
Adding a player like Budarick to the team would allow Saad to run off the backline more, something we still lack (maybe that is Cowan).
Either way his goal was enough to prove why.

Stoked for the win.
Now we need to back it up for the next two weeks and get some momentum before the Port game.
