At least Graham Wright isn't yesterday's gun messiah and is somewhat of an innovation (he's not been a CEO before). So there's that.

I'm hoping Wright continues the good work Cook has done and takes it to another "innovated" level as you suggest Trav.

Hey Trav, did you get to the game last night? You're usually consistent with your support attending games, come rain come shine.

Do you think we got it Wright against the Saints last night?

I was there and it was excruciating to watch but proud of how they ground out the win.

We certainly got it wright by not appointing Ross!

Graham Wright has probably seen enough ! I'm expecting him (when he gets his bum in the big chair) to make some tough, unpopular but necessary moves. He owes nobody nothin' . So buckle up change is on the way.

i hope change is coming. meaningful change. but i fear it'll be more posturing and people pleasing inbound. that's been the MO for the last 25 years.

Correct.

Just on Graham Wright.

We know all about his track record in footy dept roles etc.

But, is he even able to do any of those things as a CEO? Isn’t there a separation of powers and delegation of such tasks to the footy department?

Yes he can have an influence but if he even tries to flex his muscles wouldn’t they be accused of interfering in the process?

Maybe a dumb question but I don’t know much about how footy clubs work in the boardroom.

As CEO, Brian Cook or Graham Wright once installed, would manages the complete business operation.
He would report directly to the board. The board would approve any recommendations, changes or improvements put forward by CEO. CEO would manage the complete management team within all clubs business units, including the football manager & department.

Cook could have made changes to Lloyd, or anyone / anything within the football department, as Wright can do once in charge.

change can only be a good thing at this point.

i love the fact wright picked mcrae kinda from left field, and pushed hard for mcrae to apply, and then pushed hard for him to be appointed. the fact he handpicked mcrae over voss is an interesting little sidebar.

pies were a bit of a mess when he took them over. salary cap thru the roof, deadwood every where, 2nd last on the ladder, a bunch of aging players on the list - not too dissimilar to us.

he fixed the list, got the cap back under control and went from 2nd last on the ladder in 21 to a flag in 23.

Yes Braithy , very interesting and a bit puzzling also . Wright was GM of football at the time . He was the one who decided to jettison Buckley which was like slaying Bambi . Pretty brave doing a thing like that at the Pies . Yes , as you say he was the one who drove the appointment of Fly . The the thing I find most fascinating is Wright was so unimpressed with Voss he counted him out after the first interview . He didn't get a call up for a second interview . I wonder if Wrights thoughts on Voss have changed after spending six months in the joint and observing Voss up close .

i fear, voss is exactly who wright thought he was.

his days might be numbered. but only if wright has a bonafide replacement up his sleeve.

Soft salary cap may have a say in this decision too.

KEN oath

I remember in the 80's a photo in the Herald of all the support staff at Carlton.

Just because the AFL props up the GCS and the GWS and they don't want to have to pay the nepo babies more.
