When watching the replay I was struck at how quick Saad’s reactions are and how agile he is in always getting the ball moved on, even if he only has a split second. What do you all think about playing Saad as a small forward? He is solid in defence but he’s not as a effective as he used to be, and he’s couldn’t be any worse than Evans, White, Motlop or Fogarty.

If Saady was a stay at home small forward that would be insanely good. If he had to do the sperinting our small forwards are doing, I don't think he's made for that

We really miss a mid sized forward now that Kemp (who was serviceable) is out and Moir is a VFL player at best.

Your Zurhaar, Ben Long, Will Hayward, Cam Ah Chee types

Just have no one outside of the big H and C who can regularly kick goals.

Time to sell... if wasnt at the end of last season. TDK , H and Walsh up for sale. Should net us 4 top 20 picks and salary cap space.
Wont take long to put together a different configuration from there. Back challenging for the 8 or even top 4 by 27'/28'.

I disagree with selling. This year is not the time to sell, with a weak and compromised draft.

You cant find guys like Harry easily. Harry is in his head. But he keeps presenting and trying. Better than most of our boys. He will get over it.

Would love to keep TDK but not for the money he is asking. And rucks are easier to find.

Disappointed in Walsh. Dont know what is wrong with this guy. He was so consistant.

Its really a mindset with these guys. They need a coach they respect and fear at the same time.

We accept mediocre performances and senior players know they wont be dropped.

We also dont have a good leadership system in our team.

Fancy Cripps saying to the media he doesnt discuss contracts with TDK. Imagine a leader at Hawthorn, Collingwood or Geelong saying that. Just wont happen. They would be hey mate stay or just leave.

We need to add skill to the team.

I dont trust our recruiters either. Say we sell, do you think we will choose the right players ?. Ummmm No.

Our recruiters need to go. We need experienced good recruiters from successful clubs. We need to start poaching.

How do you sell a free agent?

Our spine

28 Weitering ......$900
28 SOS .............$650
30 Cripps ..........$1M
26 TDK ?????.... $1M
28 McKay ..........$900
28 Curnow ........$900

TOTAL..............$5.35M

As good as any.
We have our spine and not looking for one. We build from there not sell.

Midfield Group

29 Hewett .........$450
26 Cerra.............$650
24 Walsh............$700
19 Smith............$180
20 Lord..............$180
19 Campo B.......$180
17 Walker............2027

We just need to improve on the supporting cast around the abovementioned.

WE have O. Hollands, E. Hollands, L.Campo, Cowan, Carroll....who knows about Moir.

Developing Talls

19 O'Farrell
21 Lemmey
20 O'Keefe

Our window is open for a few more years. We have to keep turning over the peripheral players to improve our list imo.

Our biggest issue right now is small and medium forwards. Apart from Williams (who rarely gets on the park) the cupboard is bare

How about if we play Saad as the deepest forward and make Charlie and Harry run up and down the ground?

Edit: So we have Charlie and others kicking into space around Saad who can use his agility to run onto the ball, NOT kick it on top of his head. Obviously this means we need players like Boyd and Silvagni fit to replace his position in defence

We have a lot of role players on the list. Guys who can perform a task to a reasonable standard, but that's about it.

I’ve got Kemp, Williams & Moir down as medium forwards. But, with the way half backs have evolved, I’d be adding Cincotta to that list as well - and he might be the best fit of them all.

Sorry Sin - but suggesting Saad up forward is as close as bad as playing Boyd forward last week. The coach who suggested this - well .....

Losing Kemp has robbed us of that 3rd target forward. As much as Young tries to fill this hole he is not mobile enough.
McMahon has been kicking 3 to 4 goals a week in reserves why wouldn't you take him mid season.

He can also play back if needed.

I'm betting Austin has his eye on some recycled small forward

17 players 21 or younger
5 players between 22 and 25 one out for the season
The rest (22) 25 or older with 7 in their 30's

It's the lack of players in that 22 to 25 years age gap that is killing us.

If you want to compete you need 27 players AFL ready that can move in and out of the team. We have 20 at best with no injuries and you lose a few you are hoping kids are going to step up.
Unless they are exceptional its not going to happen.

Don't we have a pick before them?

I don’t think he’s any value at all.

On his best day, he’s still 4th - maybe 5th - choice tall at either end.

Jacob Newton.

Has good hands and can kick a goal, he looks like Durdin out there.

I hope one of these guys can go through the midfield.
IMO, we need midfielders with run and carry, who can go forward.
