The only player I’ve seen as freakish as Ablett Snr. Could get you in the air or on the ground.

Absolute superstar.

RIP

R.I.P. Buzz.

No doubt, one of the reasons my love of the Navy Blue began in the early 80s.

R.I.P. buzz

My best memories in football was walking from my home to Princess Park with my dad to watch the mighty blues in the early eighties. Buzz played a big part in those memories.

How good was that recruiting coup of Buzz and Kenny Hunter in one off season. That 81/82 team was probably Carlton’s best ever team.

Larger than life character
Condolences to his family

I reckon when the Dominator joined the celebration with Buzz after his goal of the year might it have been the first time I saw people having sex.

God I loved those guys.

Easily my favourite Carlton team of all time.

I was given my first Carlton jumper back in 1974 with a 25 on the back but by 1981 I’d gotten serious.

Along with about 50 Cash’s player name labels, 20 odd player badges, a couple of rosettes and a bunch of iron on lettering, my old duffel coat had a big 7 on the back, a smaller 37 above it, a 14 on the front left pocket, an 11 on the front right pocket and a 9 and a 4 on the upper arms.

Johnston
Harmes
Ashman
Doull
Hunter
Bosustow

Wish I still had that.

We have five dogs in Canberra.

Everyone’s favourite is Buzz.

I was about to open a bottle of rosé but a beer seems more appropriate right now.

Go well champ.

Very sad news.
I was lucky enough to see him play. I was at both the game at Optus Oval when he took his mark and at Waverley Park when got goal of the year in the final.
He was a terrific player. Condolences to his family and friends.

Very saddened to hear this.

I didn't realise until reading his stats on the Carlton site that I was at his last game. I remember he got under the Roos' skins when we looked like blowing the game, and we needed every win we could get on the run home to making the five. Then I walked with my Dad back to the car parked in Park Street and put the radio on to hear about it all over again.

My attendances were pretty random at that time, still being a young teen miles out of town, but fond memories of that era.

The Buzz had a quiet game in the '81 GF, well tagged as part of it. Parko's strategy in the '82 GF was sound, I thought. Leave the Buzz on the bench to get him chomping at the bit - he was one of our best when he finally got a crack, including of course a speccy and a handball to Kenny H running past and goaling. Good days.

I was at the formative age of 10 when Buzz came to town.
I’d had 25 on my back, like everyone else.
In 1981, that became a 4… just like everyone else!

Which became a 7 a couple of years later (like almost everyone else)
Which became a 4 again… just like many.

Could easily have been 37, 9, 14 or even 16.

But the 4 from 1981 was my first deliberate footy decision.
What a star. He will always shine brightly.

An absolute freak of a player. He would light up the crowd with his fantastic skills and athleticism.

I don't know of a player like him today.

I remember what I think was his second game ... Round 2 in 1981. It was against Fitzroy. It was in the first quarter ... we had 2 goals 4 behinds (or might have been 1 goal 4 behinds. At that point in the game he kicked our entire score.

I remember thinking "what have we got here" ?

Agree. The teams from 79 through to 82 were the best IMO. If it wasn’t for the imploding we would have won in 80 as well.

As a 12 year old I was sitting in the Robert Heatley Stand when he took THAT MARK against Geelong. I remember rushing home to see the replay - and actually being disappointed with as I was certain he had reached goalpost height!

RIP Peter Bosustow - thanks for the happy memories.

Lovely story.

Thanks Buzz, you were a genuine champ.

We had an L shaped modular lounge when I was a kid. I used to play this game where I’d kick a balloon so it floated above the couch and then run and launch myself off the arm of the couch before taking a screamer and landing on the other side of the couch on my back.

At the high point the neighbours would have heard the cry of “Bosustooooowwwwwwww!!!”.

Must have done it a few thousand times at least.

I revived the game a few years later but replaced it with “Kerrrrnahaaaaan!!!” but I was quite a bit bigger by then and ended up taking out the coffee table.

Mum wasn’t impressed and I was pretty bruised so that was the end of that.

Although I was a lot taller by that last screamer in 1986 I’m sure my Bosustow got a whole lot higher than my Kernahan.

Loved these duffel coats. I had every badge possible on mine. My mum had to sew the thin name patches on the sleeves too.

I wish I kept it.

I recently bought some duffels and have bought some original old patches and had them sewn on to mimic my old one.

What memories we had a Carlton supporters back in the 80’s. So lucky.

I had a duffle coat too. I also wished I had kept mine. I had number 30 on the back, I loved Tony Pickett as a teenager.
We were very blessed to have followed Carlton in the 70's and 80's. Great times.
