Want to get one thing out of the way first...the umpiring was great.
Sorry, you read that right. They umpired minimally and didn't get sucked in by divers looking for head highs or pushes in the back (looking at you mostly, Geelong) and were consistent.
There, I've said it. I feel dirty. Don't argue. I'm not coming back to this.
And onwards...
Ollie Ollie Ollie. Love your work. Your efforts are not represented fairly in the stats (haven't even looked at them). Geelong kicked the ball out on the full twice, I believe, due to the perceived pressure that you were constantly applying. Superb effort all day. Deserved to sneak forward for a goal at some point. One of your best.
Haynes arrived today, been building to this after a disastrous debut. Close to BOG, although plenty of contenders.
Gov also close to BOG - showed skill, heart and brains. We don't usually get all three.
TDK wasn't BOG for mine but that might be because I'm now taking his brilliance for granted.
Same for you, Crippa. Okay, def not BOG this time but what a last quarter - a captain's quarter, even if you fell into old habits occasionally of trying to do too much.
Weiters solid as ever. Potential BOG almost every time he plays.
Walsh, Cerra, Hewitt, Elijah, anyone else? Racking up possies often out of sight amongst a sea of navy blue and white arms and legs...all great. Especially impressed that Walshie managed to precision deliver a pass into the forward line for a goal - not his forte, a sign of a good day out.
JSOS - has the genes, the legs, the pigheaded not-on-my-watch attitude befitting a '95 remembrance (did his grumpy dad turn up today? I missed that bit)... Has he really broken his hand? He really needs another type of break.
Kudos to Williams if he played on with whatever his injury was to kick a great, if somewhat accidental goal, before being subbed out.
The newbies are slotting in nicely, and Durds continues to show why we've waited patiently for him to get past his injury run.
Charlie is great even when he's quiet, and he can afford to be quiet when Harry decides to take the bull (or cat) by the horns.
Mots and Cotts had blots but they'll be back. Mots - you're not Cripps, don't try to break tackles. Someone please tell him this isn't the VFL.
Fog's best game for the year.
Our best game since the last time we played them. What I loved was our response when they threatened to wrench the game from us, as they've done to others like Adelaide and are very good at - there's a lot of belief in this Cats side, and we showed that we're capable of NOT panicking and rising to the occasion.
Gotta be happy with this. Regardless of any mitigating circumstances or flaws we still need to iron out, enjoy it. A great win.
X2
Motlop trying to get around someone from the centre bounce instead of taking the first option and getting nabbed a classic example.
But his time will come.
for me, i'm happy they're trying to take the game on. and not blindly shoving it onto a boot and bombing it long.
i'd rather mistakes from having dare and backing yourself. than the blind panicked stuff that's been the cfc trademarke since the 1999 prelim final.
