Francis must be in the mix for round one selection, otherwise why pick a 26 year old?

Agree " Sue " . I can only conclude the ones trying out with us must have been underwhelming . I"ll be keeping my eyes on Doherty who is lining up with Frankston this year . Although Doherty is a ruckman I could see him playing CHB myself . The thing I like about Evans " Sue " he gets to the drop of the ball . He reads it off a pack . And I reckon he would kill for Voss . Our other little blokes just haven't earnt it .

A typical last selection
He has played AFL
He must be good
I call it the Fasolo Syndrome

Reading (or listening) between the lines, I think the additions of Haynes & Silvagni to the defensive group might have ‘solved’ the problem. Grumble guts Weitering practically swooned when talking about Haynes on the Summer Sessions podcast.

Young, Carroll, O’Farrell & the Irish as the depth… admittedly runs aground a bit early, but we’re still in pretty decent shape. And Phillips, at least, isn’t going anywhere. Not sure about DGB, but there is an opening on the VFL list.

My concern is that SOJ, McGovern & Haynes are all going to need to punch above their size if they have to play against a genuine KPF. S.Durdin couldn’t get his body right, but at least he was a genuine 195cm+ defender.

The only two we have in that range now are Weitering & Young. I don’t count HOF because he is years away.

As usual, we will be rooted if anything happens to Weitering.

This. The aforementioned are all 3rd talls, not key defenders. I still feel we need Young in the team to be a properly balanced backline

I'm not too fussed. Even if everyone was fit and we had all the SSP tryouts to choose from we'd still just play Weitering.

We better use the SSP well now. We need some outside run and carry in the midfield. Hope we look outside our VFL too.

Welcome aboard ‘Walter’ White.

Hopefully he’s not quite as selfish as his namesake.

Six small forwards by my count.

Fantasia: 30yo this year, 114 games - 18 last two years (1 final)
Fogarty: 26yo, 70 - 27 (3)
Evans: 24yo, 34 - 27 (3)
Durdin: 23yo, 48 - 25 (1)
Motlop: 22yo, 40 - 26 (4)
White: 21yo, first season

Evans is 182cm so might fancy himself as a medium?

Fogarty & Durdin are the only ones with a contract for next year.

Ok lads the AFL has allowed us another pick.
Our key forward is doubtful could be round 3,13 or 23 who knows
Our number 2 ruck has just done his calf this could be month's.
Our no 1 ruck looks like a bandage bear
Rucks 3 and 4 are filling in holes in defence because we are down KPD and one returning after 18 months out.

I know we will pick a small forward
Williams Durdin Motlop Fantasia Fogarty Evans and Moir might not get job done.

Please get rid of Austin now

If you were being a cynic you'd think this selection means...

Durdin's ankle is [REDACTED].
We have no faith in our small forwards.
None of the talls that trialled with us did anything.

Or you can take the positive view and say...

He must have done enough over the pre-season to justify his selection.
There's genuine pressure for a spot as a small forward now.
We must be very comfotable with the talls on the list.

FMD, I'd hate to see some of you people in a real crisis.
We haven't played a real game in anger and we're sacking people.
Yes Jagga was a huge blow but he's a kid who would have played a minor role. As for Pitto, the bloke struggled to get a senior game last year. I look at O'Keefe's game on the weekend and saw a lot of upside. That's the big positive. Give the kid a run.

As for Will White, I like the selection. Clubs are focussing more and more on fast, small forwards who apply maximum pressure. He's just what we need. Obviously we trialled a few tall defenders and none of them stepped up. You can't manufacture one in a test tube.
I'm the biggest proponent of getting another tall defender in but if they don't step and a deserve the spot, so be it. O'Farrell played well in the VFL. Perhaps they think he'll be a better option as the season progresses.

He’s definitely not a small forward.

I like the logic. 10 mediocre small forwards will make up for one decent small forward. Genius

Maybe it’s like, have enough tickets in the raffle and one will come good?

McMahon must have really stunk it up over preseason, or ran over Austin’s dog, or shagged his missus

Sorry mate but O’Farrell is miles away from holding down a key position in the AFL. Like 20kgs away (allegedly. Hard to know now that we’re too woke to publish an athletes weight, but the eye test says he’s a few preseasons away) He could be eased in as a third tall, but that’s not what we need. We need a lock down KPP
