Nah my bad. It was Brodie Kemp we traded in for. Picked just before SdK. We got Philp the pick after SdK.

So who would you rather running around the half back line now, SdK or Kemp? We lose TdK next year to the cats and that will be an even bigger fuckup. SOS still going for Kemp  blokes unhinged.

Yeah, I was filthy we didn’t pick SDK when we had the chance

Yes, and Kemp was picked with the aim of becoming a midfielder, right?

That’s all he learnt?

I could have told him that!

If they were in front of him they’d be quadriceps problems.

Pick 3 will be either Walshs cousin or Draper.

Both have had injury disruptive seasons

They'll be right once they get into the superior Carlton injury prevention/management environment. Then it's a matter of which one has the poorer disposal..that's our man

I'd just like to nominate this one here for special consideration. quadriceps jokes are highly underrated

and let's be honest. if he has elite disposal, one preseason at ikon will iron those wrinkles out of him. he'll be butchering into our F50 like he's been doing it he's whole life.

of course, that's when his hamstrings will allow such activities

I’ll be happy with any of Jagger, Draper, Finn or Lalor.
My preference is probably Draper but they all have their appeal for us.

I’m expecting we get a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Kennedy and Kemp which Austin will then flip into another top 5 pick so we can get two of the four above :-D

Austin and co must be supremely confident in what they'll get at Pick 3 considering there will be no first rounder next year.

Can't help but feel this was all about cap space and with TdK and Walsh needing contracts, we couldn't afford Houston.

We're top-heavy and I can't see how we compete next year with basically one more 18 y/o mid - albeit a good one (we hope).

I think Ben Camporeale will surprise, may play sooner than we think. But gee it could go pear shaped quickly and be a long season if C**wood get a run on. If they leap ahead of us and * in the flag stakes next year I will straight up retch.

I agree with you.
I don't think we could afford Houston and re-sign both TDK and then Walsh.
List spots were also an issue, which I am sure the main reason we had to let Owies go.
Seems like our list management has not been up to scratch.

it's all part of the game kezza ... if the guys they wanted to; had have worked out, we'd be fine. but too many haven't been able to cut it. I think young hurts us and the fact no small forwards have really come on and nailed a spot hurts too.

the HTB rule change hurt the mids profile - we suddenly looked slow and 1-dimensional.

Yeah, I reminded myself of the salary cap issue this morning, probably the main reason we didn't get Houston. I'll admit the idea excited me at times, but my initial response was that he didn't fill a need so I'm going to revert to that. Also the spectre of Tasmania puts added weight on the need to accumulate next-gen talent. Hopefully as the Gov and ZW contracts expire we will have the space for another win-now signing, whether that be SDK or whoever comes available next year... send those Victorian tourist brochures to the Chad Warner household before he starts typing 6000s into real estate dot com.

No room in the cap plus limited list space.
I also think that if the club can somehow keep the best 22 on the park for the bulk of the season instead of having the worst injury run in the league, then we're probably top 4 without blowing the budget on one dude.

Tom Morris on SEN saying that he thinks Kennedy gets to the WB.
He also thinks Kemp is more likely to get to St Kilda than stay.

Dont want to trade the little swingmen we have. Would rather keep Kemp at this point.

A round 2 pick or whatever is not going to help us next year.

Happy to let Kennedy go but not Kemp. Unless its another 1st which St Kilda wont offer.

Surely we only let BamBam and Kemp go for the picks stated, if we can package them up and somehow move up the board again.

Houston went to Collingwood for pick 13 and change. i’d have been very happy to take a ready-made all-Australian defender-mid who can help with our much documented ball movement issues for pick-12 plus change. especially a 23 yo with his best years in front of him.

must have been salary cap issues. if we can delist Owies for converting 12 (15) and 14 (17) into pick 3 (4) then there’s surely VFL players who are droppable for an elite talent like Dan Houston.

either that or Nic Austin and co got caught ball watching on Houston deals. or Graham Wright has a few iOUs to settle at Collingwood, lol! (joking).

in fact if we had have been able to land Houston then one of Saad, Cowan, Boyd, Newman, Doc, Kemp, Gov isn’t going to get many senior games anyhow, may as well have traded up unless we feel multiple injuries to medium defenders are inevitable.

I'd be interested in Laverde from Essendon* if he came cheaply - especially if we offload Kemp.
