Keogh check out the ages here.

You make Hayes sound like he is old and infirmed.

The point is he may not be in the best 22. that's okay. Based on past history you are going to need 30+ to put on the park over the year.

He is a proven AFL player. 200+ games, 2020 All-Australian and won the Kevin Sheedy Medal having led the League for intercept marks in 2020. He's a cheap stocking filler, who can slot right in as required. He is braver than McGovern and a more rounded defender than Kemp is at the moment.

I do get your point, but it is not as if he is a broken down hack. He is a tried and tested warrior, whose character traits will be good for the club and the young kids.

What about the excellent point that he is 33 in May undersized
Yep we get him for nothing
And we have him now
So
Wasn’t even in the VFL squad of the year
Hope the Werribee bloke gets picked up in the draft
Another late bloomer squeezed out of Richmond in his younger years because of a strong squad
Does Mannagh ring a bell boys
Just another example of a clubs short sighted recruitment
And Hayes is not what we need
Not another medium sized defender
Dumb @#$%&! dumb

I think you're being a bit dramatic Keogh.
We got him for nothing and we would be paying him the same.
He's a proven AFL player.
He will replace the injured Marchbank.
He played in 8 AFL games this year so not surprised he didn't make the VFL squad, did Marchbank?
I get the desire to pick up state level players like Geelong but maybe there is a reason Cooper has been overlooked for 8/9 drafts.
Cooper is an unproven risk (what we used to do) and we are at the doors of a premiership and would've been close to one this season if it wasn't for injuries.
So even if Haynes is 32, as long as he is not injured we have improved our chances next year already.

I love blokes getting drafted mature age out of the VFL. The fifth word in that sentence is key.

We differ on philosophical ways of recruiting
Hayes will be a list clogger
Whyte is worth a late pick in the draft
Disagree with your points
And he is braver than Mc Govern
That would not be too hard
With Geelong now having pick 17 that makes it harder to get Smith
Probably will involve a third club
I really like Sam DeKoning
Weitering clearly needs some big bodied help

don't lose sleep over haynes, keogh. he's free, and he's on a vet minimum contract which is nothing against the cap

marchbank was washed up from injury and couldn't get on the park. haynes is a like for like, who's healthy and has a dip. unlike mcgovern. and if haynes comes in and offers more the mcgovern and gets his spot, who's complaining? his age means little if his output is better than what we have.

I have always said better to fill the list with some speculative picks like a Whyte who is 27 and plays in a position we need filling
Comes for a bag of chips as well
You may get 4 years of quality footy
You won’t get 4 years with Haynes that’s for sure

Compo picks should not exist

Free agency 101.

All this is is trading with the AFL and draft manipulation.

The only reason for compensation picks is so that the AFL can still keep their thumb on the scale.

Could we use compo picks as the campo picks?

Haynes is on a one year deal.

I think I feel a lot better about Weitering, Haynes & Kemp than Weitering, Young & Kemp.

Also pretty comfy with Young, Haynes & Kemp, should history repeat.

We’ve got Walkers kids coming and the changes to the NGA mean that we’ll get rewarded if we put in. We should be looking to move the most talented youngsters in the country into our zones! How do Brisbane get Marshall who plays at Sandringham?

They’re not changing the rules, they never will. Carlton’s problem has been we’re too slow to exploit them.

We're the only club without an NGA zone in a regional area. I don't think there's a dumber club in the land.

I can’t see Houston getting to Carlton once that Noble deal is done.
He’s Collingwood bound.

In what world does John Noble command a first round pick. Even if 29 2nd Rd picks come back with him...

I was hearing Noble + 2025 first rounder in exchange for pick 13, which hopefully means Pois actually paying someone to take Noble
