grew up a bombers supporter, trained with them under a pathways program and apparently told some around the club he'll be back there one day. the word was he'd take a big pay cut to play with them. which imo, is what you'd need to land him and still have a team to put together around him.

but west coast is going to offer him 20 mil and 12 years if you believe the media - so that kinda money might could change things

No, he grew up supporting Geelong

Booooo....Truth always gets in the way of a good story.

Just ask Trump and the Dawgs!!

Yes Sideee….

exactly as you said…it’s a small window left to the
Carlton Football club…3 years maybe…?

With these champs that is…so lets make the most
of it…Houston is a major cog…!

I don’t think Haynes is as important…i feel his
best is behind him…!

But Houston for sure…!

kindest regards tommi

Could be a lot of issues.

Some of those training loads broke players...lots of them. That's a welfare issue for the weak, or Russell pushed things too far.

Fantasia is well liked amongst the group, but his selection ahead of others may have caused some angst.

Selecting in form players as sub, could be an issue

Hewett dropped to the VFL for one week, was costly...4 points.

Changing game plan on a weekly basis. Voss called it tweaking, neverthless it doesnt seem that the game plan was set by the end of the season.

Some players may think they are worth more than they are paid?

Who really knows?

As long as the tail isnt wagging the dog I'm fine with players being uncomfortable after losing 7 of our last 9 games to finish off the year with a scoreline 60 v 0.

Good because it's very apparent that Austin is out of his depth.

I am sure you have good reason for your comment Doc.

I thought he was highly regarded after his success with the Doggies list.

Giving 2 first rounders away for Cerra and Saad and 4th for Hewett isn't a crime. Crippa needed more support and Austin delivered.
Our defense was our strength at the time, and we had big guns in the forwardline and invested in the small forwards to fill that gap.

I think he's done Ok thus far. This year is the year I will judge him.

If SOS is slower than he was post ACL then that ship has sailed imo.

I always thought he'd end up as the intercept defender, but he fills a hole for us in the forwardline as a 3rd marking target and Fwd-Ruck.

Maybe Haynes is cover for the 3rd defender. I don't think we can depend on Gov and Kemp till fill that spot.

Haynes is still running really well. Have a look at who is keeping him out of the GWS team. It was time to change the guard and start getting games into the younger fella Idun...and Aleer

“Then my third was the club I was in with (laughs)! It was a very smart play.”

Kennedy has had 30+ touches in 5 of his 118 career games, not sure I'd be hanging my hat on that.

He's a good player, but we have enough big slow mids, and we have JSOS and Moir in the forward line.

.

WOW. That's a real surprise. Only 5 times. That's a great stat GE.

There was a constant selection conundrum with Hewett and Kennedy available.

I thought Kennedy played more as a forward because of injury to SOS, Martin, Cuningham, Doc....

Moir looks like he could be the next big thing in the forwardline, and Hollands, a similar height to Kennedy looks to have cemented his spot in the forward line/ mid.

I think there's a window with Cripps and another without Cripps.

We will keep recruiting for the next 3 years and we have a stable of good young players to develop (Moir, Lord, Kemp, Duffy, Wilson, Binns, O'Keefe, Lemmey, Campos, pick 11)

Cripps turns 30 next year, so 3 years sounds right. Plays till 2027

Harry, Charlie, Weiters, Houston and SOS turn 28 next year. Play till 2030

Walsh turns 24 and Cerra 26.

Hopefully Austin adds some pieces this Trade Draft to excite us, and in 2026 we have Cody Walker.

Other FS include Allan, Dean, Scotland, Walker 2, Koutas, Judd in 2029, and NGA Gresham and Isun.

We have to win one during Crippa's reign.

Why would you give up a 1st Draft Pick for 2025? This is insane!

The Club is moving closer to a new rebuild, the Premiership Window is coming to an end in the next 1-2 years if we don't Win one. Some of our guns are reaching the end of their Careers, especially our Captain, so what's going to happen if we get Houston, give up 1st round picks and more, then fail to Win a Premiership?

We will have no solid picks to build a team around. Instead, the club will resort to getting recycled players to fill the Gaps and seek success that is doomed and will never happen.

Our list is in a different place than what we have been use to for last 2 decades.

Previously, our depth/developing players were gifted games. When they didnt come on, we dropped down the ladder, even with Judd, Kreuzer Murphy and Gibbs.

Even with a dozen out injured during the year we were still able to win games.

This is a new model imo. With Cookie in charge I'm sure can keep topping up and developing. Having seen what Cowan, Lord, Moir, Binns did when given a game, I think we are developing players for positions well. Its just the small forwards who are frustrating me due to injury and lack of speed.

Hopefully this year we make a lot of changes to the list and get some balance sorted as well bringing in players who are not injury prone.

End of next year we see the back of Gov, Doc, Fantasia, and maybe even Saad and Newman.

Point is we move on players and we replenish with better players. We are in a much better spot than anytime in the last 2 decades.

The fact we are putting Owies and Kennedy's names up for Trade bait says to me we are looking to improve our personnel.

Lets wait and see what Austin does. He can't please all of us, but lets see.

The fact SDK's name has been raised as a target tells me Austin is targeting anyone who can plug holes and make us better. Doubt SDK would leave the West Coast.

I've been very impressed by Idun this year. Used to think he was a bit of a liability but the investment has paid off, he is now class.

I, too, have defended the Haynes signing due to the embarrassment of riches at GWS, but I previously only cited Taylor, Buckley and Leek. But you're right, Idun has also stepped into that 3rd defender role and is playing it to a very high level.

Bloody Giants. :(

I also agree with your general observations about the list constitution, Bondi. I used to be a bit of a zealot about keeping the list young; let the 30+ olds see their legs go on someone else's pitch as the great Bob Paisley used to say. But you look at how Geelong have managed it over the years, extracting the most of their veterans' savvy, able to easily replace them because they're a destination club, and you realise the fountain of youth is not everything. Hell, even the darling Hawks rely heavily on Missily, Gunston and Breust in the big moments. So yeah, the number 28 doesn't scare me. Not even the number 33 when it comes for (almost) free.
