Current players don't say it because it sounds like they're falling back on excuses. But you listen to past players interviewed, & they'll reflect on how massive injuries are, & how you'll spend the entire season behind the 8 ball when you're returning from them.

Cerra is a class player who loves the inside stuff as well as finishing off. Need to back ourselves to get him right for a good 2025.

Think we need to be a bit patient with Motlop also for the same reason.

Yes on cerra, however haven’t yet seen any real asset Motlop has? What do you think it is?

Cerra is contracted for next year and certainly deserves a season under the new fitness bloke and his team. The guy was excellent last year until injury and I’m not sure we can take anything away from his season beyond the recurrent injuries. Let’s see if we can get him fit and then go from there. In saying all that, I wouldn’t be in a rush to re-sign him beyond next year. Wait until the season is underway to see if his body is up to it and act accordingly. The worst case scenario is we offer a big deal and he breaks down consistently for the rest of his career - eg Martin, Williams and McGovern.

but in that scenario of seeing what happens. we could offload him this summer with another team who are confident of getting him right.

sell high, etc ... rather than wait for the bottom to fall out (potentially)

He can kick multiple arsey goals in the space of 10 minutes, & then go missing for the rest of the game

Selling him now would be selling him low. We got him end of 2021 for pick 6 and some but now would be giving him up for what, a second rounder? I’m not sure many clubs will be jumping to hand over a high pick for a bloke who has done 5 hammies in 14 months. You’re right though he’ll be worth even less next year if he breaks down for another season but that’s where we’ve got to back in the new fitness guy to fix him up. For mine, the upside of an A grade midfielder, which he was last year, outweighs the downside side of the difference between a second round pick and nothing in return.

for what it's worth i don't think we should trade him for picks at all.

if he's a player that the other club asks for, i'd do it. say dees with petracca, and if they want him, i'd throw him in, if for nothing else than to cut salary that can go somewhere else.

if we get a mid this summer, we need to trade one out too, imo. having lord as our 5th mid and his development is pretty important. geelong keeps turning over it's list and staying competitive bcos they always have some kids in the frame being exposed to afl and getting better.

Houston is ranked elite in tackles - a quality Carlton highly regards.
Elite in metres gained.
I’d give up pick 11 for him as StKilda & Collingwood will be offering something similar.

I’d prefer to try & win a premiership whilst Cripps is at the club than just stick around the 6th to 10th mark.

The AFL has no idea how big Carlton could potentially be with crowds, revenue and tv ratings.
It would be in their own self interest to see Carlton prosper. They probably have no idea of the gold mine they are sitting on.

nothing from player exit meetings just yet. I thought that something would have come out by now.

Not that there isn’t plenty of life still in Newman, McGovern, Saad, Docherty & Williams…

Defenders under 30*:

B: Boyd (26) Weitering (27) Cowan (20)
HB: Kemp (24) Young (26) Wilson (20)

Hewett (29) Cincotta (28) J.Carroll (22) O.Hollands (21) Duffy? (21)? L.Camporeale? (19)

* assuming Marchbank, S.Durdin, M.Carroll & Akuei aren’t on the list.

It might seem a little bit mental, but most of those names are in different roles. With that in mind, I would be hell bent on getting Bo Allan with our first pick in the draft. Then cross my fingers that one of the talls (Whitlock, Mraz, O’Farrell, etc) were there before we pick the first Camporeale.

Rumour... Marchbank, Akuei, Mirkov, Sam Durdin, Matt Carroll, Cunningham cut

Thanks for your efforts if so. Feel for those injured perennially but we need to move on from that.

I'm also in the give Cerra a chance camp. He was front and centre in our turn around last year. He hit a purple patch and we flourished. He's got elements or other mids don't have. He started slow this year and I reckon was just starting to hit his straps when the first hammy struck. I don't think we should continue with all of Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy and Cerra, but I don't think Cerra is the one to go. Unfortunately, I think Kennedy would be my pick of those 4 to move on. Or at minimum, be kept only as a backup should one of the 3 go down. We are simply too immobile with all of them.

As expected, let’s hope these are just the easy ones and they keep cutting

Nothing surprising in that list.
It's shit for the individuals who can't get on the park, but when your job is football you actually need to football at some stage.

Is there anything of value we could get from Freo? Maybe a second round pick, thus or next year?

We'd probably get a nominal pick to save the hassle of him going via draft but it won't move the needle of our draft hand
