The thing about that first half was, it didn't look to me like brisbane's pressure was way off the charts, we just played like it was.

There was a reason why Rayner & co were laughing among themselves & I think it was because we were making it so effing easy for them

At least I could share my misery with a couple of my mates at the game. Had I been watching that at home, it would have been far more difficult, I reckon.

Go Blues, next year!

And go Giants, next week.

Last qtr of the season. After blowing a once in a lifetime (it appears) chance of finishing top 4. After absolutely butchering an elim final. WTF was the point?

How Voss thought that Cincotta would be of less value to the team than:
Durdin
Fantasia
Motlop
an untried Doc
an untried Cerra

is beyond me

WORST...by the length of Flemington Straight omission ever!!!!!!!

TDK sub...WORSt...by the length of Flemington Straight use of sub ever!!!!

Kennedy subbed off...WORST...by the length of Felmingtin Straight choice of who to sub

This loss is all on Voss and whatever $%^&*& was going through his brain

Seems the mass injection of underdone players failed dismally.

But apart from that, I was staggered to see Cincotta left out and all three of Durdin (not entirely fit or getting much of the ball), Motlop (no discernible form this year) and Fantasia (has a magic touch...when he gets it) running around. Cinc could have taken a dominant Zorko out of the equation and maybe snagged a goal or two along the way. Okay, we've left him out and Zorko's running riot...let's try Ollie on him, except let's wait until the second half. Good move, way too late, but typical of some slow reactions in the coach's box all season.

As some have said, we had two weeks to prepare. Even if the selections were a tad disastrous (some were worth a try but not all), the magnets needed to move quicker and smarter. I know Kennedy's slow and was struggling to make an impact but he has the smarts to make a difference late in the game if you sub out someone else who appears to be running around in circles. (Motlop was trying hard but I don't get why he has survived the chop for so long with such underwhelming results and Cincotta missed out here.)

I still believed after half time but only because it was flaky Brisbane (who were very quick to wet the bed even though we were miles behind). Not sure what to think now. Injuries definitely have hurt us but we still should have given a few games a greater shake. Really don't know if Vossy can get us above this but it feels like the window's closing next year (not this year, not just yet...).

Positives...

Ummm... Hewett... Ollie... Young got better as it went on... Weitering started shaky but good overall... Newman (fly the flag but explosions will land you in hot water eventually)... Walsh's second half... Cripps doing Cripps things even if he didn't exactly star... TDK... Doc got a goal and his knees got through... I wasn't there...

Sigh. So much promise. Massive homework needed over the break, Blues.

42 tackles for the game.
Brisbane scored from 29 of their 58 inside 50s.

Not appealing Owies' suspension is still surprising to me.

Not that it would have made much difference.

Had great seats at the front of top deck, 50 metres out. Got to have a kick of the footy after the game. That's about all I've got.

Also agree with CK’s post. We were starting to move - last year in particular - to a system based, next man up philosophy but tonight just seemed a case of playing everyone whose best would be good enough and just hope for the best.

Dunno. It is what it is. Ill agree TDK as sub was curious, but why take off Kennedy?

Motlop, has gone backwards in leaps and bounds - Rather keep Moir, who showed plenty over him thanks.

Im livid. The fact we gave them a 10 goal start, before we even showed "something" is inexplicable, and unacceptable.

There is far more to the risks taken with selection than what I can adequately describe.

Also, not sure this is totally on Vossy. The cupboard was bare in so many ways with personnel available. At selection we saw high risk options, which given where we were prior to this game , was understandable.

I'm, like 100k plus members and thousands of other supporters, are heartbroken - once again.

we outscored them 71-39 with tdk out there. he's our best player on the list, must sign him up longterm.

not sure where we go this offseason, but if it's just a few draft picks and signing nothing but depth players like haynes, next season we'll be bottom 4.

Ridiculous comment, I get it, you're hurting but that's crap.

How many clubs would you swap our list for?

I know but maybe we didn't have to go so full extreme. We could have brought back some returning players, but not all.

Then cincotta could have played, & a Moir or a Lord also.

I don't think Brisbane were all that amazingly good in the first half, just reckon they played a very out of sorts side.

GWS will cover them easily IMO

Just bizarre selections tonight
Voss in the box in the last
Somethings wrong at the club again
Brisbane were not that good
Interesting to see what happens over the next 4 weeks with delistings and trades

Playing Doc was the dumbest decision of the season
Doc putting he’s hand up to play is the most selfish decision of the season
Sooner we get rid of Voss the better clearly he has favourite and has no faith in our youngsters

Agree that selections for this game were bizarre

However, we are kidding ourselves if we think it would have made a big difference

Horse bolted a long time ago. Kids should have been blooded before the last few weeks. In fact should have occurred when Voss first started. Persisting with overpaid players like Williams, McGovern and Martin has stunted our ability to take that next step for sustained success.

Voss has placed too much investment in certain players and a game style that is so stodgy that players look confused with ball in hand.

I’ll say it again, there is too much reliance on our better players and not enough on a cohesive system where run and good foot skills are the priority.

I think we are in the wilderness again. Really need to find 4 - 5 players with pace and good foot skills in a hurry before this premiership window is fully shut. In fact, I think it is shut. Can’t see Cripps winning a premiership with this club. He deserves better.

Embarrassing losses happen in all seasons… it’s how you deal with it that matters. Do you have the fight? I was pleased to see some 2nd half fight. Know who the fighters are going forward.
In 1970 - a premiership season - Carlton kicked 2 goals for the whole game against Collingwood. Did they give up? No. 1995 - they got pantsed by St Kilda. Etc.

Thoughts on players.

Hewett - easily best on ground. Has fight no matter what.

Cripps- was being held around the waist by Brisbane tagger at every contest. Pay the bloody free kicks!

Kemp - symbolised the battle (due to injuries) Carlton was up against. He was effectively a defender against Harris who went down the wing & neutralised many contests Carlton had.

Pittonet- always gives away many free kicks, and dropped a chest mark when Carlton was building. They scored a goal from it. He wouldn’t be part of my best 22 going forward unless he builds his game.

Durdin - clearly not in best 22. Should have rewarded Moir or Lord with his spot.

Motlop- borderline. Showed some fight..but only in small moments, but next year will need to improve to retain spot.

Cerra- not sure he will hold his spot next year vs Lord etc. will have to step up. Even before injury, had to be rated “average” for a midfielder.

Cowan - fought out match. So too Newman. Elijah Hollands- will improve in 2025.

Fantasia- delist. Well done on a good career, but not part of the future.

Kennedy - if they subbed out an above average midfielder-clearly a mistake. He wasn’t injured? He has fight. Could have subbed out Durdin, Cerra, Fantasia etc before even considering him a sub.
