Last year I was quite confident and we lost, this year I am not confident at all.

I'm feeling quite confident. I think we can take a lot of confidence from our performance against St Kilda and with McKay, Curnow and a few others (hopefully TDK) returning are a real chance.
It will be interesting to see if we take a gamble and select Martin or Williams.

Not sure why we'd risk Martin or Williams when we have Kemp & Moir fit

I would play all 4 of them if fit. It is all or nothing time. Disappointed that we did not start with Moir ahead of Durdin or Motlop.

Based on training yesterday I doubt Martin plays (he wasn't there). Same with Cerra & TDK.

Max 29 degrees forecast for the Gabba next Sat. The Lions will be better acclimatised to the heat.
Hopefully it doesn't get that hot and at least we're on at night.

Finals footy is contested with lots of stoppages, hopefully will bring our strengths to play. Wouldn’t be surprised if the hawks are smashed as they rely on a lot of outside run and uncontested footy.

Quote:
Spearhead Charlie Curnow was limited to straight-line running and light skills away from the main group at an open session attended by about 4000 diehard fans at Ikon Park on Saturday morning. Battling an injury to his left ankle, he did not kick on that foot. Coach Michael Voss indicated on Friday the two-time Coleman medallist would line up against the Lions.

Injured trio Tom De Koning, Adam Cerra and Jack Martin trained on Friday and did not take part, while Harry McKay, Mitch McGovern and Zac Williams, who are also pressing their cases after injury, all completed the 90-minute session.

Free of tape or bandage to his knee, Docherty moved freely and looked sharp. If he plays at the Gabba, it will be almost six months to the day since he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in the opening round at the same venue.

I am more and more hoping we don’t select Charlie, he’s still sounds severely restricted and that’s exactly what you don’t want in finals footy. 70-80% effort won’t cut it. I feel our best options are Kemp and Harry in the fwd line.

So maybe in: Harry, McGovern, Williams, Docherty. Out: Binns, Owies, Durdin, Carroll/Motlop

Moir or Docherty to be sub.

yeah agree.

it's madness to risk charles or tdk imo ... we need them for the duration. charlie snaps the ligament he's done for 4 months minimum, and tdk with a broken foot. you just shelve him unless we make a prelim and he's had the full 8+ weeks to heal.

#MeToo
(Re not playing TDK or Charlie if not 100% given the risk is long term not just an additional 2wks of rehab)

I'd be very surprised if Charlie doesn't play. He'll have had a month of rest for the ankle by next weekend. I think at training he may have been testing out an ankle brace of some sort.

We need to play Charlie and TDK if possible, as after this game there may not be a tommorrow.

We have to go for it. We dont have the luxury of resting players. Unfortunately we are playing the toughest team at home outside of Sydney.

Fingers crossed and GO GO GO GO !!!!!!!!

We need fit players that can preferably run out a game... not names that end up sitting on the bench by qtr time.

We need coaches to come up with plans that account for our injured 'stars', and negate the opposition's strengths to our advantage.

Charlie would need to kick nine goals at least to balance his lack of chase and pressure due to his ankle.

i really don't agree. this season is done. we just came 8th. the reality that we make a prelim let alone a gf is beyond slim.

when both these guys could do the kind of damage that requires surgery, rules them out of preseason and affects 2025, i think you just rest them. charlie's ankle is a 2-3month injury, and the chances he goes down just from changing direction (and turns it into a 4-5mth injury) in the 1st qtr is thru the roof.

i'd rather go full tilt with a new HP manager and possibly a new assistant coach or two in 2025.

harry and kemp can do a job, and so too pittonet in the ruck verse mcinerney who would give tdk a bath after so much time off.

Not a question of whether we should save someone

It’s a simple matter of having fit players on the park.

In another thread you complained we are too risk averse?

There’s risk and then there’s stupidity.

i'm not sure why people equate being risk adverse to dodgy selections of players who are 70-80% fit??

like i explaied to bondi (who assumed the same) ... imo, we're risk adverse in our gameplan and lack of dare and backing ourselves to run and carry and take on the corridor.

risking 2 of our best 3 players who are 80% fit and can do further damage that eats into next preseason & season (like tdk & charlie) is being sensible.
