If curnow is fit, I’d still have kemp shutdown Wilkie (and kick a couple) just like he toasted McGovern

I like this, and not just because I live in Brisbane. This is the perfect opportunity to erase the ghosts of last year's Prelim and knock Brisbane out on their home ground as we should have done last year. Poetic moment of revenge.

Yes, but at the same time, I prefer to finish 7th if GWS can beat the dogs, this way, we Get to play Hawthorn Again at the G, and beat the hell out of them, the same way they did to us recently.

Is Ross grumpy enough to want to drop the game to keep Freo out of the finals?

Both good points.
Just like last week I questioned West Coast's motivation to help Freo make the finals.

That'd be nice but I really think overwhelmingly across the board at that shitty club, they'd love to knock us off.

Anyway if we're good enough they won't

They will be hellbent on winning, let's not kid ourselves. It's going to be tough. I'm looking forward to the emotion, good or bad.

Really difficult to guys how the team might look this weekend, so many 50:50 players.

I think the most likely is McGovern out and Curnow in. In that case I hope they send Kennedy to defence and not Kemp.

If McGovern is out and Curnow is not ready I’d like to see Lemmey in and push Kennedy back to defence. Lemmey and Kemp as key forwards and Lemmey as second ruck.

Fantasia is a straight forward replacement for Durdin if his shoulder is too bad.

Overall we need the fittest players on the ground in Sunday, if a player needs a test then they shouldn’t play for a week.

A win will probably see them jump 2 ladder positions - assuming Collingwood def Melb comfortably and Gold Coast defeat Richmond (by not too much).
This would be a significant blow to both their draft and FA compensation for Battle.
If Carlton were in this position I'd be furious if we won this game.

It's a real tricky one. I too would like to see anyone listed as 'test' have the week off. Ideally, we'd win and then a few blokes could come back for the elimination final having had up to three weeks recovery time.

With McGovern, they tend to pick a decent distributor to replace him rather than a 'defender'... but I'm not sure who that might be.

Cowan - Young - Newman
Cincotta - Weitering - O. Hollands
Acres - Cripps - Binns
E. Hollands - Kennedy - Walsh
Owies - Kemp - Williams
Pitto - Hewett - Carroll

Moir - Motlop - Lord - Marchbank

sub: Wilson

possibly elijah? a bit small, but he showed last week he can intercept and distribute. and defensively 1-on-1 mcgovern has been very poor, so we don't lose much there.

gws/ dogs is the game. we need giants to get up here. that means port have to win for a top 2 finish, and eliminates freo in the process.

i'd be resting whoever went off from the hawks game. imagine they come back and go off again injured. and we're men down, while the kids are fresh and hungry and competent and watching from the stands? no thanks

i think we can beat the saints with the team that travelled to WCE. and if we can't, we probably don't deserve september. however if we do beat them, morale is high, momentum is with us & competition for spots is back on after the bye. maybe go on a run towards another prelim. we know our best (with our best mobile line up) is as good as anyone.

No to Marchbank, we’d be too slow in defence with Weitering, Young and Marchbank all there. We need someone more mobile such as either Kemp, Wilson or Kennedy.

I’d prefer Kennedy and keep Kemp in the fwd line. Bring in Fantasia or Lemmey. Fantasia passed a fitness test last Thursday.

I'm in the worry room for this one - Saints will torch us on the turnover with their speed and quick ball movement. Marshall will destroy pitto everywhere except centre bounces and our guys wont be breaking tackles like they did against WCE. Could get ugly, hope Port bring their A game to Perf.

I think the key will be to get the jump on them early. If we have a reasonable lead at half-time then they will start thinking more about Mad Monday than the next contest, and we can think about overtaking the Dawks. If scores are tight at 3/4 time then anything could happen.

A test to me implies a player looks to have overcome their injury but needs to be tested and passed fit in the last training session before the game, to play after missing from injury.

If he passes the test, he plays, if form warrants selection.

Its been that way all year. Can't see that changing.

As for McGovern, he hasn't missed because of injury but experienced tightness. He's more likely to miss out after being tested given hasn't missed imo.

Saints will select Dow and Stocker to conquer Carlton, and stick it right up 'em.

Good luck with that. I'm so scared. :yikes:

I was told by someone early this week one of the 2 KPs would be playing this week.
I thought it would be Harry because it may have been quad tightness from having no rest.

Charlie did get his ankle strapped up to play again, but wasn't required.
Makes sense that after a week, he's set to play. I hope he's mobile and kicks 10.
