it's true, walsh is compromised ... we need to be in a position at the start of 2025 where walsh is midfield depth. maybe move him to a more outside player thru the wing or halfback/ forward. move heaven and earth to make it so, or waste this generational spine we have.

i'm all in on the bailey smith trade, but it's a pipedream at best. smith becomes robin to cripps, and we're up and away. cerra the 3rd fiddle. and walsh moved to part of the ground (a bit like murphy in his later years).

Walsh's tank will let him play that role but his kicking has been so affected by his back that it's become a borderline liability - see the stats on his kicking efficiency inside 50

no team with a brain is giving up two first round picks for a bloke who has already played his best footy, will be lucky to play past 30 and is basically managing a flowered back for the rest of his life.

I’ve heard some pretty wild trade scenarios for Rioli, Bolton and Baker at the Tigers…. Just sayin

I think we deserve a priority pick.

the hope would be, from not being in the guts and being saved from the brutality of the middle, that he'd have more in the tank for kicking.

i'm trying to be optimistic, but his decline has been stunning this season and coincides with us falling apart. it's plausible he's only got this contract in him as an afl'er.

Yet further evidence that this club is cursed... it's so sad that we're talking about Walshy like this. His finals series last year was unbelievable. He was supposed to be moving into his prime. Instead, this is the discussion. Just compounds the misery

Maybe it isn't his back at the moment. Groin? Plantar fasciitis? Both annoying but can try and play though. You would think the club would be super cautious about his back and not play him.

you just know there'd be a club out there like st kilda that would back themselves in getting walsh fit and on the park given how broken our HP dept is.

they could give us a young tall defender and 1st round pick

wonder if that's related to his back? if not, that's great news.

towards the end of the demons game i think it was, he got smashed and looked sore, and hasn't played the same since.

Is he grabbing his back because it is damaged beyond repair and hurts, or because he receives no umpire protection when his back is the target for the opposition knees and elbows, and his hand on back is a normal human reflex action to the attention in that area?

Walsh is an elite midfielder. Turns 23 in 2024.

2021 30 Brownlow Votes
2023 Ayres Medal for best player in Finals (and didnt play in the GF)

2024 Came back in round 5 and looked like he didnt miss a beat

No doubt the attention he received against North left him sore.

absolutely he is elite. he's also had microdisectomy surgery at 21. the possibility a 24 game season and finals is beyond his capacity is plausible. he tailed off pretty drastically after his 6 or 7 game stretch of 30+ possessions.

to say he's been a passenger in the last month and a half is an understatement. he has the 5th worst F50 delivery among midfielders in the entire afl. he's turnovers have cost us goals, and in the majority of games where we've lost by only a goal or two, his output could have been the difference in wins and losses.

i would listen to offers if they came this summer. i'd even offer him in a package to bring in an elite mid.

word out there is zac butters wants to come home to vicco this summer. would a deal centering walsh, a prospect (maybe binns) and a draft pick get us Butters?

would it get bailey smith if we offered walsh and a 1/ 2nd round?
