Part list part coaching part injury management.

Too easy to score against.

One-paced in the midfield and lacking skill in the midfield (even O Hollands as an outside mid doesn't really have any hurt factor and is too small).

Too reliant on the 'star factor'.....reliant on individual brilliance too often (look at how we've become average since TDK got hurt).

And still paying for Silvagni's horrific drafting of smalls/mids.

Despite all of that the window is far from closed.

Biggest holes in the list are a skillful/damaging mid and a 2nd KP defender.

This pretty much sums it up.
Adding to that Austin has done a pretty poor job also at fixing our midfield and small forward woes.
I like Jesse, but geez he's not that smart at times and he's just not damaging at all.
More midfield depth with faster skilful players being able to go forward or back would change our whole team dynamic massively.
A fully fit Carlton can win the premiership, but we are never close to fully fit for any length of time, this needs to change............at the trade table.

We are still suffering from his Smart Move of bringing Injury Prone- useless players from GWS into our club.

This club's strategy has been exposed and worked out by the even Average Carlton Supporter. Every year, we look for Shortcuts because we badly need success and our Board members demand immediate success. Their demands do not change. They have no patience and no football brains. So whoever comes into the club falls into their demands.

We must Recruit mature age players who have some value in them and Hope for the best!

I have never seen a Football club in my entire life that continues to perform badly at Recruiting for 25 years and counting.

Couldn’t agree more Ron

God, no. I don't want any more ruptured ACL comeback kid punts at this club. And to be honest, I thought he was pretty soft and shit in 2023. If it weren't for the barnet no one would notice him.

many players have done a knee and come back faster and stronger and never done another. so many come back better footballers too. realise what they had when it was gone etc ... injuries are a part of the game. where cfc has failed is in the injury management and rehab side of things.

that could be about to change though. the guy we're in (advanced) talks with for HP manager has a few stipulations about his own rehab team and consultants with some of the biggest names in sport. ex chinese olympian guru from sprints and long distance and jumps, ufc, NRL, ultra triathlon etc ...

i'd be so excited if this came to fruition. i know how good these guys are at putting together body's. walsh's back would be in good hands.

And before SOS we had the Boekhurst/Whiley/Jaksch wonder trade. That was a real low point.

At some point we have to accept that it's not just the recruitment, but also the environment into which we bring them. We dont drive high standards, we glorify the past when the future dries up, and we absolutely accept mediocrity.

So whilst the recruiting was generally crap, each one of those players, with a true sliding doors moment, could have thrived in a different environment.

Yes, probably even Lochie OBrien.

Geez , I'd take Smith . That run and carry is exactly what we need . A pulverising runner when he's on . Sure , he's a weird unit but we have had plenty of those in the past and they have thrived at our Club . Diesel , Rhys , Dominator etc etc .

I would take him too.

I get GEx's point that he's had an ACL, but we need speed in the midfield group.

I mean, it's not that. He's also soft and has poor disposal when I've watched him. Did I just catch him at bad times? I was watching closely cos he was in my supercoach and forever letting me down. :D

Right now he's a lock for us.

He's injured.

just a question / Sam Walsh if IF we can get 2 first rnd picks do we make a deal ,listen. Reason for this thought is that i have witnessed him crabbing his back during games and it concern for the future . Take the emotion out of your mind what do we do?

no team with a brain is giving up two first round picks for a bloke who has already played his best footy, will be lucky to play past 30 and is basically managing a flowered back for the rest of his life.
