This is a team that leaks too many points

Published 3 days ago:

Blue funk: The history Carlton must overcome to challenge for flag

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1184586/blu ... e-for-flag

A leaky backline has seen the Blues concede 86.6 points per game this season, ranked inside the bottom five across the entire competition for scores against during the campaign.

In fact, only Essendon* (87.5 points) and cellar dwellers West Coast (99.4 points), Richmond (102.6 points) and North Melbourne (108.6 points) have conceded more than Carlton this year.

Another underwhelming presser from Voss last night... trotting out the same lines with no real answers or solutions. They (coaches) are giving the impression of having no idea of how to get us back on track.

At least the notion of a 'heavy training load' that many were hanging their hopes on was put to bed last night...

I would hope Cook, Sayers, Williams and Lloyd are in his face regularly.

WTF is he and his coaches doing? During the week and on game day?

The most talented list we have assembled since 95 that is being flushed down a toilet with the worst coaches in the AFL.

did voss address the training load? and it's a myth?

i can't look at the guy anymore... he's gotten this far with this list on individual talent alone. he can't guide or direct or coach them any further than that.

If McGovern's kick goes through would we be having this conversation?

Probably, judging by the first three quarters

I fear we have wasted generational talents in Cripps, Weiters, and Curnow, with a rubbish list profile and uninventive coaching. I think Voss is a motivator, but when belief in the system starts to dwindle, motivation sounds like hot air

I hope so. It's exasperating that we manage to produce one majestic quarter per game but lose the rest of the game by just enough to walk away with nothing. Either we need the fitness and intent to bring the good shit for longer, or we need to play better tempo footy during the holding phase. But we just rinse and repeat. It makes for fine margins where an injury or rule change can @#$%&! you. We need more, we need better.

This sounds harsh but maybe for the greater long term good and more internal and external scrutiny, feedback and introspection, Gov's miss was needed more than his goal

We only came to play when we didn't feel the weight of expectation and played with dare and dash

And then...when the goal had to be kicked, the weight of expectation returned

I still have faith in the bloke . A Carlton side that doesn't get blown away . Can't believe people chucking in the towel . Plenty to go in this season of twists and turns . Little in talent between a whole lot of teams . Bring it on the day and we can match it with the best . We will come again .

Frawley Lockett Hall Harvey Winmar .... generational talent in one team...missed Finals every year.

It happens.

Lets hope we win one for Cripps before handing over the baton to Walsh to lead the next generation.

Where there's life there's a chance.

We have been great in last quarters against the recent teams we've lost to: GWS Doggies and Pies.
Ran out of juice after a 5 day break against Port.

Means we've got something to work with and believe in.

Things haven't gone our way, and it seems its something we can control.

Any team in the 8 that wants the Flag bad enough can win it.

Lets hope we are one of them, and our first week is at the G.

I think you might be mixing up eras a little, but it kind of illustrates my point. Name another club other than St Kilda to fail when you have arguably the best key defender, midfielder and forward all in the same team.

Piss off Aaron Hamill and get a replacement. Maybe try Adam Simpson or give the gig to Doc for the remainder off the season.
We concede too many scores, our defensive 50 stoppage craft is abysmal and our transition/ball movement from D50 is atrocious as well. Our offensive/defensive system from our back 7 is amateur.

Q: journo asks something pretty obvious about our lackings or the oppo’s ability to isolate our good players and exploit weaker players, lack of defensive pressure and transition, which we seemed to have flourishing 6 weeks ago.

Voss: I don’t think so we just have to get a better version of us… we don’t worry about/look at that that too much.

start freaking looking at these things then. our players weren’t abducted by aliens for lobotomies 5 weeks ago.

those gatorade ads of hansen don’t exactly sell his footy smarts iMHO. Doc said on 360 he’s an amazing assistent coach and human being, not convinced he’s go what it takes for match day decision making in the heat of battle.

even Voss seemed perplexed by our turn in form since 2nd qtr of GWS game. hope he knows more than he’s letting on.

also that obfuscation about H not playing previous week with a journo was just weird. made it look more sus than ever…

what they guy coaching the most scored against team AFL for the last few year? ok. Hamil was great when we had Jones partnering with Weiters and we were top 2 defending team in the league.

remember when people on here used to bag Liam Jones week in week out? bet they’d take him for Kemp + Young + S durdin + Marchbank now! we seem to lack for a few tier 2 and tier 3 players who can come into the team and get a job done without having the “chemistry” of being a regular. too many passengers, not for want of effort i expect, just lack of ALF talent across every line.
