Our fall from Grace once again proves how poor our list is. We lack depth. This is due to the club's continuing to take shortcuts and not invest long term on some Kids.

Lets go and Recruit another Fantasia next year and see where that takes us :donk: :donk:

i can't see how we win. it's basically an elimination final for hawks and they have the cattle and gameplan that lights us up. fast, fast, fast...

We did invest in Dow, O'Brien, SPS, Fisher, Stocker, Setterfield etc but they just weren't good enough.

were they not good enough or are we really bad at picking players? or developing them?

one or two may never work out, you get that. but our success rate seems so poor, i can't help but feel it's the club. since the draft was incepted, we've been below average.

We are not very good at building a list for sustained success

Our midfield depth and overlap run from defensive 50 are our biggest issues.

Rely way too heavily on our top 6 players. Similar to Ratten era.

We are a Cripps or Weitering injury away from a bottom 6 position. That is not sustainable.

We should have gone through a mini rebuild when Voss first started

Can’t rely on Hewitt and Kennedy to be your match winners in the midfield. Although both were good last night.

We were missing toughness last night, Cowan would have helped.

Hawks will start heading in the wrong direction today and we will continue where we left off in the last quarter last week.

Blues by 32pts as we march towards 15wins.

I was gonna post something sarcastic, but you are right. They are playing delightful footy, as much as they have massive shit heads in their forward line, those shit heads are very fast. The only way I can see us winning is to play so tight they can't move, but that hasn't been our strength since the Geelong game

I think it's pretty obvious we lacked a development plan, but we cut so deep even talented players would not have had a chance. But we also drafted poorly. O'Brien is not playing afl, stocker and dow aren't automatic inclusions with the saints

Hawks will embarrass us and we'll be out of the 8.

At the start of the game, and maybe in spurts during the game

Cripps to FF

Walsh on a wing

Hewett Kennedy and Lord at the Centre bounce

Curnow on a HBF

FFS...give Sam Mitchell a few minutes to digest something different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hawks getting touched up is a possibility, it happened against Geelong. Pity it's in Canberra where GWS are less assured (at least in my recollection). Where I'm less bullish is on the idea we'll continue where we left off. We've seen plenty of times that we're capable of one quarter of 250 pressure rating where we score 6 or more goals and concede 3 or fewer, but we don't sustain it. If we bring it for both Q1 and Q2 - or even if we can torch them in Q1 and maintain the leading margin through smart tempo footy in Q2 - then I'll believe we're on the way back, until then it's same old same old.

I do share your optimism that a win vs Hawks will lead to wins vs Toast and Aints. 15-8 may be enough for 4th, at worst a home elimination. From there who knows, aside from Bears no one has looked like consistent flag contenders over the past two months and even they may be using all their fuel tickets after their dreadful start.

Lose vs Hawthorn and it's all over, maybe a 7th/8th and EF loss but it'll be meaningless.

A lot of Hawthorn fans are going to Manuka today.
Will feel like a home game for the Hawks.

Lets hope GWS do the job on them, Hawks lose a bit of puff, and we make the 8.

I really want to believe this however we only looked good against the Pies when they ran out of gas in the last qtr. When the whips were cracking we couldn't match them unfortunately.
On a positive note, a fit and firing DeKoning in the finals (if we make finals and if he returns) could make a big difference.
