Is it a gamble this late in the season to see what Jaxon Binns can produce?
Every game is a "big game" from this point onwards, yet if one doesn't try one doesn't know what he is capable of. Every game is critical, can you risk such an inexperienced player so late in the season? Still, assuming Carlton gets more injuries and is forced to use him in a finals match (assuming Carlton gets to the finals) then that is an even bigger gamble. When is the right time to gamble?

Hard running, can play outside midfield and kick a goal or two.
Would enliven the group if he scored a goal.

Then to counter that argument one could state, he just hasn't got the experience yet. And using inexperienced players is risky.

The midfield...need more rotations. David King suggested that Saad go into the midfield. If Jordan Boyd is fit, does that give them that flexibility?

Then one would have to conclude Marchbank is slightly better than Lewis Young. 2nd ruck? Who would it be when Kennedy seems better deep forward?
Shame about Sam Durdin's injury. I thought he competed well in the air vs North. I would have him in front of Marchbank and Lewis Young.

https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/jaxon-binns/

Do you think the ball would be hit to Pies advantage with 210cm Cox vs 190cm Kennedy as the 2nd ruck?

With Harry likely to return, history shows Vossy throws a combo of Harry/Bam Bam/ Cripps in the ruck to give the sole ruck a chop out.

Marchbank is a better defender than Kemp and Young, even if he looks like he's slowed down with all that extra weight he's put on.

Durdin/ Young? Flip a coin. Durdin/ Marchbank? Depends on size of match up. Anyone less than 195cm, I'd pick Marchy. Durdin is the slowest of the 3 by far.

i think the pies beat richmond tomoz. both our seasons are on the line in this game, imo.

them on a 6 day turn around and banged up. us plenty banged up, but playing bottom 4 footy.
Everyone we play lately is suddenly in form, and next week will be no different, throw in a huge milestone game and our mental scarring against this mob too.

They'll probably then win all their remaining games and kick us out of the finals, again.

hahaha, i feel your pain ... but thats a very negative mindset.

sad part is, its very likely to happen ....

gee, what has happened to us, since we played the cats. We played them off the park and looked like absolute top 4 side ... at the moment, im not sure we will stay in the top 4, let alone top 2. It feels like straight sets for us ... unless we have dramatic turn of form.
I'm not in a good place this morning

it was as flat as i have been for sometime after a game .. i go with my dad to the games, we barely spoke a word in the car on the way home ... flower depressing result.

Geez. Last 2 posts from you two are really sad.

You have to look at what went right, and why whatever went wrong could be fixed. The season isn't over, but I get the depressing side of it. My 2 boys are in a dark place after a loss. I'm only in a dark place when our season ends. Last year was the exception. WE shoulda coulda won if........and that 1st quarter was something else.

Like a lot

Harry was ill, not concussion. He past concussion test during game last week, albeit late. Late enough to kick a great goal.

Like.

Not sure who Martin squeezes out. Only played limited time last game, but he'd be training full on during the week and next week.

Good question.

Young => H
Cuningham => Blacres
Kemp => Marchbank? don't love idea of dumping the kid after one game if we see him as first choice in long term, but March seems better for spoiling Cox while Weiters takes McStay

Against another opponent I'd say Martin could come in for Cotters or O.Hollands, as they're not playing well enough consistently enough to justify both, but we need our elite runners against the filth.

So perhaps Martin could replace one of our 3 small forwards. Again, each of those offers something different, all playing okay but not great. Motlop offered the least last night, but he needs game time.

One other thing I note when looking at Collingwood's lineup this week is that they only have one tall defender (Moore), so CC and H could tear them a new one if we use them right. If we use Martin as well then it really complicates matters for them, but we also need F50 pressure and run to stop them torching us the other way.

I guess we wait for the injury report and take it from there...

We should be in the position to keep pressure on spots up, with only 4 games to go.
We have to get better than yesterday, and be past looking for answers and trying things each week.

True Motlop needs games, but if he isn't providing great value, we can't wait for him to show it in the AFL team. Bring in Martin.
I thought Motlop's first half was good and faded like the rest who played 5 days earlier. Martin hasn't shown much in VFL, but then again that's not his job.

I get the feeling Martin is playing for his career at Carlton.
Carlton would want to make sure he's ready bring his weapons at AFL level at the pointy end.
Geez we are getting close to the pointy end. Get the point.

I'd like to see Martin replace Fogarty.
Collingwood 'rushed back' Jamie Elliott straight into the seniors after a long injury layoff, so I wonder why we couldn't bring in Martin after gaining some fitness in the VFL over a couple of weeks.
I hope they keep Motlop in the side, whilst it is hard to drop Owies as he hits the scoreboard most weeks.

Collingwood will play McStay, Cox and Howe forward. If we don’t play Young back next week, then I give up.
