Martin closer to EHollands role which doesn't help his chances although we perhaps have room for another of their ilk in the team. Problem is we're now using Cinc off half forward too

yeah although Elijah is much more comfortable as centre bounce starting middle fielder running up and back between the HF and HB arcs than Martin i think. i rate Martin highly when he is fit and in form. i didn’t mean to say williams and he can’t play in the same team with Williams playing as a stay at home HF.

Martin probably has considerably more tank (but less physical endurance!) id guess.

Elijah is closest to Owies i think in terms of structural similarities ie the roles they can play as a forward/mid.

I'd put Weitering on Cameron this time instead of Hawkins.
It appears that Hawkins is cooked and I think our best defender could be better utilised than being placed on a 'decoy' forward. If we restrict Cameron's influence than we should win this game.

Weiters said Cameron would probably run him into the ground in a pregame interview before the previous meeting this season. maybe he was just showing humility.

This is it.
Friday night
Orange socks
Win and we are 2 games clear of 5th if results go as they should.
Geelong with full list to choose from.

Doesn't get any bigger than this.

We will see what they are made of

Really need to finish top 3 to have a decent shot at the flag as finishing 4th will mean playing the Swans in Sydney first final.
If Cerra returns then no excuses as we will be close to full strength as well.
It's the damned orange socks that worries me.

I feel it depends on who finished top 2, if we finish 4th. If another Victorian team like Collingwood finish 2nd, then if we lose 1st final in Sydney, theoretically we play the rest in Melbourne and play Pies in Prelim. Then we meet Sydney on GF day. Prefer and want to finish top 2 but……..

Yup….

I’ve said it before…our BEST…is better than
anyone’s best…Sydney may be champs at the
SCG…but not the MCG…!

If our midfield is ON…delivering to our forward
line who is ON…?

Forgedaboudit…!

Yeah nah…better than anyone else…even the team
that beat the BOTTOM team by a point today…!

It’s all in their heads now…how bad do they want it…?

kindest regards tommi

I haven’t forgotten our defence…Jacob…McGlovin…
Newman…Saad…Boyd and Kemp……ON…!

Just think…!

OOOOON…!

No one…!

Is this sudden bout of unbridled optimism something to do with the orange socks??
Since when have we forgotten 25yrs of misery headlined by multiple cases getting way ahead of ourselves?
We’re in this together people - let’s get back to dour pessimism!
PS. Melbourne were playing like Sydney at this stage of 2022 and Collingwood were untouchable this time last year - yes, they won in the end but came off a fair way and just scraped in. And weren’t we 15th this time last year?? There is a long way to go yet.

So we're going to win the minor premiership as well as the major one, is what you're saying?

I can't see us losing a game for the rest of this year. That will be 16 wins in a row. Like 1995
Is that too optimistic? :smoking:

While all matches are crucial, this one will give us the best indicator for a while of where we are at.
We must beat Geelong who will be returning to full strength for just about the first time since our last meeting.
Hopefully, we have close to our best team on the park (if Cerra returns).

Of course, even if we win, we must frank that win by beating the Tigers (who may also be at full strength for the first time in a long time).
But if we do that, then I think we can start to feel confident about our capability to nail a top 4 position.
Even if we subsequently lose to GWS (who will probably ALSO be returning to full strength with Coniglio and Aish adding to Kelly’s return last weekend). As long as we don’t get smashed.

However, if we do beat Geelong, I will be confident we can win the next 2 and put ourselves in a strong position going into the last 1/3 or the season.

Last time we played these pussies we didn't have Mcgovern, Saad, Fogarty or Cincotta

We've also now turned Williams into a goal kicking forward. He was abused defensively against Geelong.

Not to forget 2.8 in the first quarter and we dominated the stats across the board for the match....it was stats the likes of Brad Scott has never seen before.... we were brave.... we were the moral victors !

Given the injury report, I'd say we're probably going to go in with no change.

The only possible alteration would be to *maybe* ease a Cunningham or Fantasia back via the sub position.
