Cerra & Cottrell straight in, if available. Motlop just needs to get some miles in his legs.

Williams setting up shop in the forward line is like Coles or Woolies opening next to a milk bar. The smalls go out of business. There’s no shortage of possibilities to fill out the forwards, but when the rubber hits the road, we need our better footballers on the field. Williams, Cottrell, E.Hollands & Fogarty are our better footballers.

Motlop is a scorer & Durdin’s energy & clean hands goes well as the sub, but the other blokes are better footballers. There’s room for only one of them - maybe only a sub role at that. Unfortunately, Martin & Cuningham can’t be considered.

dont write Martin off. voss and the MC won’t be — i can guaranty you that.

the selection conundrum with new fit players got me thinking. Q3 against ** we couldn’t move the ball out of their half almost the entire quarter. we needed more run and carry breaking the lines and changing up the marking in their stalemate press.

Williams was supposed to be one of those run and carry types who can follow up with pass accuracy (as opposed to kicking an Acres-moon-ball) type of elite players. if he continues to perform up forward who plays that role now? it can’t be Saad on his own because teams target him now and he gets tagged out of it completely these days if it’s just him. also i don’t recall Saad doing much of it against the top-2* quality** Dons*** did he? only bounced once IIRC and it was a run from deep back not so much a breaking the lines result.

Could Martin go back to a half back position who sneaks forward at times, and produces straight down the corridor transition plays on the rebound (a la the filth)?!? his body just wouldn’t handle the back half defending i suppose. Cowan is a good shut down type not so much a line buster just yet. who can do it?

the dump kick forward from deep D in the third just got exasperating. perhaps it was just. case of our mids being tired and not working hard enough on defensive transition for that Q. a side like Sydney would have put 8 goals on us in the third with that kind of territory dominance.

With Williams doing b grade Dusty impersonations I dont see any reason to rush in Jack Martin. Let him have a few games in the reserves to make sure he gets through and has confidence.

The problem is we’ve only got 4 or 5 games in a row for Jack Martin - recommend we keep him on ice till round 22.

Whoa there...very optimistic

I'd say, make him the sub for the Prelim and hopefully just comes on after HT

Then hope and pray that his hammies, calf, groin, adductor, ankle, AC joint, glute, quad, medial, lateral, posterior muscles are able to make it up to the dais on GF day to collect his NS medal

martin is as good as cooked while williams is doing the job he's doing.

you just can't trust martin or his body i don't think. past the halfway point of yet another season and he's played 1 total game. it's pretty wild how undurable he is.

i think i just made up a word lol

Are Martin & Williams really competing for a spot though? I sort of see Martin more as a marking option & Williams more taking Durdin or Motlop’s spot.

I still rate Martin highly & think we look much better when he’s in the team. That said I don’t think there’s any need to rush him back - they should take his expected return & add on a couple of weeks for good measure.

Martin closer to EHollands role which doesn't help his chances although we perhaps have room for another of their ilk in the team. Problem is we're now using Cinc off half forward too

I'd put Weitering on Cameron this time instead of Hawkins.
It appears that Hawkins is cooked and I think our best defender could be better utilised than being placed on a 'decoy' forward. If we restrict Cameron's influence than we should win this game.

Does weitering have the tank/speed to go up the ground with Cameron? I'd leave him on Hawkins and rely on Kemp/Gov (if fit) to run with Cameron with Newman or Saad depending which side of the ground playing 3rd man in.

You just know Hawkins will have a renaissance if we don't pay him enough respect. He's old and slowing but still strong as an ox, and JW is our physically strongest defender by a country mile. I'd go with Kemp on Cameron, let Gov intercept and distribute.

They prefer Cottrell at half forward as well.

I will be back on the booze again if they decide to play Lewis Young on Cameron.

Same. From the Carlton side that played Essendon* I'd have

Cottrell in for Ollie
Cerra for Carroll
Martin for Durdin
