It's probably more about the difference in quality between 17 and 21

Just my humble, but I think it’s a ‘best fit’ type of draft outside the first dozen.

Reid
Walter
McKercher
Read
Duursma
Curtin
Sanders
O’Sullivan
Caddy
Wilson
Watson
Rogers

No set order, just written as I remembered them.

My man Joel Freijah (big, runs all day, clean below his knees) is rated in the early 30s, so I’m confident we’ll do ok.

not sure why we traded 17 .... would have rather just 25 for Fisher ... then trade 25 to GCS ... effectively a 3 way trade ...

feel like its a step backwards to be honest ... but i also have faith in what the club is doing and the direction they are headed.

Doesn't feel like we won but doesn't feel like we lost either. Reckon that makes it about right, all thing considered. Now to get a reasonable return for Dow despite SOS going full cauliflower

We are 3 years away from knowing the answer to that deal.

That's a magnificent deal from Austin

is it?

We drop 4 spots in a shallow draft and now have 2 picks that give us flexibility

Flexibility to trade? Otherwise it sounds like 2 list cloggers

Not a great deal for us on the face of it.

Let's just see what we do with the two 20s ...

More than we could have done with 17 & 25? How are we better off than if it had been Fisher for #25?

Probably the wrong thread, but am I missing something in the Melbourne/ gold coast pick swap? Pick 11 for 14, 27 and 35???

Fisher probably isnt worth 25 so needed to add a bit to get the deal over the line. Might need the deal done to move onto others.

Or we could have just kept him.

I'm assuming the train of thought is packaging those two picks to Geelong for pick 8. Not sure how you trump North's hand for that without compromising our hand for next year, and if that doesn't work, trade one pick for Hollands, use the other one, promote two boys off the rookie list, and then leave two spots on the rookie list to look at over summer.

He was contracted so we had a strong hand (unlike the Dow situation). I don’t see why there would be a need to rush from our perspective. I guess we should wait and see what happens in the coming days, but it seems like a situation where the onus was on North to come up with a suitable deal. #25 for Fisher, or #25 for Fisher + steak knives (#68?) was realistic. Not sure why #17 had to be involved.

Maybe keen to get Fishers salary off the books. I am sure they have a strategy and are not just going rogue.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for some on here to understand how fair this trade is, in fact I think we have done well out of it.
If you add the points from pick 17
Then add picks 21+25 points it really ends up being pick 31 in overall value.
So effectively we traded Fisher for the equivalent of pick 31.
Now hypothetically if we just traded him for pick 31 that's about right, but the bonus Austin has managed to achieve is we now have 2 picks that we can utilise to either incorporate together to get up into the top 10 or we can trade 1 of them to gain a player and still have another up our sleeve. It offers Austin flexibility which we will need for next year with the Campo twins coming in.

The only worse move will be us trading both of these picks for a top 10.
Effectively 17 and Fisher for say pick 8.
I bet people would be happy with such a move, right? Great trading, right?

I guess that could well make it, say - #10 vs Hollands and #21. Interesting dilemma.
