One of my main gripes about SOS was his penchant for bringing in blokes with a bad injury history.

With the likes of Gov, Martin, Cunners, Kemp and Marchbank finally getting on the park with regularity this season, it makes his legacy look a lot brighter. But that doesn't change the fact that those blokes contributed little for most of the time they've been at the club.

I'd have to take another look at all his moves to see how I rate him today, but my gut feeling is that this season only elevates him from a D to a C.

Wants 3 years
Initial offer 2
Hilarious if he ended up in a Blues Jumper
Even Blue Vain would fall in love with him

They say he’s going to Melbourne.

Port Melbourne, more likely.

I know you don’t rate him but he is good
Great mark for his size
Give his all
Not a great set shot
Kicking lacks depth
But you can argue he has done more than McGovern

It is the September team that Stephen Silvagni built.

As bitter as the break-up was between “SOS” and Carlton in 2019, the undeniable fact is that 14 of the Blues’ starting 22 on Friday night were recruited by the one of the club’s favourite sons.

It started with that super spine draft of 2015. The Blues bagged Jacob Weitering, Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow with first-round selections and added David Cuningham with the pick received for Chris Yarran in the second round.
Like every club, there were some misses along the way, of course. But in Silvagni’s five years in charge he identified the bulk of the Blues’ breakthrough finals line-up.

His parting gift was Jack Martin, who came for free via the pre-season draft after Silvagni stared down Gold Coast in trade talks that crumbled.

SOS should of built a better team
So many top picks at his disposal

Three things that stand out
Not bad at picking key position players
Terrible at picking mids unless it’s a number one obvious in Walsh
Some trades were totally shit

Ironically the saints need mids
Good luck Ross

Not likely. I don't go to the VFL any more.

Age reporting that Carlton no longer interested in Gresham
Apparently baulked at his asking price price
Good news Bummers are in the frame and as usual will overpay

I have said all along that List Management at AFL level can be better because guys like McAdam slip through the cracks
He is better than VFL
What he has achieved is not bad for a guy playing at Halls Creek in his early 20s
Packs his bags gets an apprenticeship moves to Adelaide to play for Sturt
Some guys path to AFL senior footy is tough
McGovern was a late starter and what we offered him was ridiculous 5 years ago
At least he has done something this year
His previous 4 were shit
Anyway I reckon given McAdam’s age 2 years is a good deal
Interesting if a Melbourne club offers him 3

You could aregue that. You’d be wrong, but that’s never worried you before.

Fewer games, fewer wins, lower rating, worse kick…

In the past, we could rattle off half a dozen definite delistings at the end of a season. I can only come up with three definites this time:

E Curnow*
Philp
Plowman

Possible delistings:

Honey - uncontracted, teases us with his talent but does he want it badly enough? I wouldn’t be against a one year extension because he could be a late developer, but my sense is that he will be cut.
LOB - contracted for another year, so unless there is interest at the trade table (unlikely), he stays.
S Durdin* - uncontracted, good depth player, but injury prone and turning 28 next year.
Mirkov* - contracted for next year, but how is his health? If the medical prognosis is positive, I’m happy for him to see out his contract. He’d need to play a senior game next year to stay beyond that though.
Akuei* - contracted for next year, so he’s presumably safe (I don’t just see him making it frankly).

Probably traded:

Dow - I want him to stay, but I can totally see why he would be looking to move on. Out of contact, so we’re in a crap bargaining position at the trade table. I can see this being another Setterfield scenario, where we do the nice guy thing and trade him for nothing to his preferred club rather than forcing him into the PSD.
Fisher - we should be able to extract a benefit from the receiving club (North?) because he is contracted for another two years. I’m not suggesting we’ll get a first round draft pick or anything, but hopefully we can bank some nice points out of the deal (perhaps for f/s next year?).

Potential trade:

Carroll - contracted for another year, and I’m in no hurry to move him on, but if there’s interest I would look at it. For example, if he has expressed a desire to return to WA at some point, and WCE or Freo have a similarly ranked player who fits a need for us - or if they are willing to give up a pick that will unlock a trade with another club (eg. for a medium forward or key defender). I like Carroll’s toughness but his disposal worries me a bit. Still young, but I’m less bullish on him than I was 12-18 months ago and I’m curious to know his trade currency (if any).

Hopefully re-signing soon:

Silvagni
Fogarty
Cunningham
Marchbank

I’d look at Henry, we’ve had a good run with Freo players last couple of years. His speed would be invaluable. If we’re sure next year’s first is going on Camporeale’s kids then I’d consider trading it with a steak knife 4th coming back our way (for points)

I'd love to get henry too. but i think saints will jump at the chance and even pay overs to secure him.

If we make them overpay it’s almost as good as him coming to us
