Career stats
Charlie 107 games 221 goals
Harry 105 games 201 goals

Charlie is regarded as the best forward in the comp
Harry is not far behind him based on those numbers

Brendan Fevola. 204 games 623 goals.
But that doesn't mean we'll select him next week. You know as well as anyone Syd, selection is based on your form. Not what you did 5 years ago.
Harry needs to offer more than he currently does. Not necessarily to hold his spot but to assist the team to succeed. That's what we all want. To see every player at their best, helping to bring team success.

Harry’s fourth quarter efforts are sometimes game saving for us. Wasn’t last week or the week before but he’s capable of dominating our transition game from goal square kick outs.

And yet Charlie takes as many marks outside 50 as Harry does. :?
He also leads the AFL for goals, is top 5 for contested marks, marks inside 50, score involvements, offensive 1 on 1 wins etc.
Adaptable, versatile.That's his value.
No one disputes Harry's potential but we have too many 1 dimensional talls. He's one of them. That's why Jack get's a game. He's not as tall or skilful as the rucks but he can adequately perform other roles. If Harry could also do it, he'd offer enormous value to us.

agree on this years form Harry wasn’t Charlie. nobody in the league was though, outside a handful of players like Taylor Walker.

there was a game this season where Charlie kicked more goals than Harry and was more involved and more dominant but Voss made a point of highlighting Harry’s last quarter to the media who were all about Charlie.

Martin’s a very different player and way more
mobile than Harry, not sure on his tank v Charlie l, both curnows are good runners, but Martin seems to get around the ground more often than any of the tall/mid-talls. i’ll check his k’s in a sec!

love martin and have done last two seasons. if he could find a few more touches per quarter he’d be a weapon like Toby Green or Papley bc when he gets it his kicking and decision making are elite. excellent in heavy traffic too.

The biggest thing Harry brings is he demands a key tall in oppo’s defence freeing Charlie from the double/triple tag effect. when he’s in decent form he’s a constant making threat, even if he won’t kick half the goals he could.

Maybe Harry does need more of a hands on coaching experience. he’s finally kicking drop punts when he should be (or more often) and i can’t help thinking that was an intervention not a change of mindset he self-engineered one day this season. maybe someone who onondaga the club well can give us a hint, BV?!

if i was Vossy, (never ever!) i’d be showing him video of Hawkins and Dannaher rucking in the forward arc and kicking goals from the clearance to inspire him to put a hard preseason in under big Cruiser’s tutorship. it would add an element to his game for sure and he can’t ruck for quids yet so that’s not an option this finals series.

to me it’s mostly a form issue with Harry. he had a stellar Coleman season without Charlie there and there’s no reason he can’t be as good a player again. even sharing the spotlight and sharing the opportunities. Carlton mangle way more than enough inside fifties (no12 for converting I50 to goal at 22%) for Harry to get plenty of it without badly impacting Charlie’s game. quite the reverse, Charlie can do anything so providing him with more space and less opposition can only be good. If Charlie can continue to improve his set-shot goal kicking it would boost our conversion rate, it’s bottom five territory, kicking a goal with 46.6% of attempts (no. 14). i guess the mid season slump weighs heavily on that stat.

I’d expect to see more stoppages in the wet.

What happens if our one ruck goes down in the first minute of the game
Does Harry then ruck all day and leave Curnow one out in the forward fifty
The game has been played with CHF and FF with resting ruck forward for 150 years we think that surrounding Curnow with a bunch of midgets is the answer .
Most premiers have two permanent marking options up forward.
Your small forwards dont have to provide defensive pressure if you mark the bloody thing when it comes in

Pies will play Cameron , Cox , Macstay and Mihochek - they have up until now been the best team all year

2022 Geelong Rucks Biclav Stanley - forwards Hawkins, Cameron Rohan- Swans played one ruck Hickey
2021 Melbourne rucks Jackson Gawn - forwards Macdonald Brown Fritcsh
2020 Richmond - Nank Soldo - Reiwolt Lynch
2019 Richmond Nank Balta- Reiwolt Lynch
2018 West Coast Vardy Lycett - Darling Kennedy

I could keep going - But I would be wasting bandwidth around here

if wet, we'd have to carry two legit rucks bcos the game will be a dour stoppage and contested ball gets; and really look at swapping harry for a small. marking won't be a focus, but run and tackle and pressure will be.

i know the MC won't have the bolas to drop harry, but based on form its the kind of ballsy decision that wins finals imo

hope i'm wrong, and happy to eat crow if i am ... i'd hate to be here saturday morning ruing how harry let us down/ the ball kept pinging past us after we couldn't lock it into our F50 and we could have/ should have beaten the swans if we went more mobile etc

i have no doubts that if we run out the same team which beat pies and dees - including walsh and cerra to that. we beat the swans handily.

the team that took the field Vs suns & giants however. i think the swans beat us.

C: Acres Cripps Hollands
HF: Cottrell McKay Walsh
F: Martin Curnow Motlop
Foll: Pittonet Hewett Dow

i think if acres doesn't get up walsh will do the acres role, and DC comes in for the walsh role.

i also think that team is too tall. and in the wet ... even more so. @#$%&! i hope i'm wrong.

i honestly feel like this is the hurdle for us ... must win in week 1 (and i think we can) for so many reasons. affirmation of everything we have been working towards, the belief it will give us will be immeasurable.

we need to be calm, calculated and absolutely monster the swans from the outset.

then, it will be no expectation, and we deliver our best with no expectation ... and anything can happen.

Im not suggesting we are a monty for the whole thing, but i think our first final will be our biggest hurdle.

I look back on this year and last year, last year we lost our last few games by less than a goal, this year, we won those. Does it show growth? yes. Does it mean we are the finsihed article? far from it.

but gee, its good to be in the conversation.

I am sure Silvagni is preferred to Pittonet for balance. Jack did run laps and looked fine.

If he doesn’t get up this week I’m sure he will be available next week

I’d be happy to play Kennedy and let McKay Cripps even Kennedy McGovern take a few hit outs while TDK has a break

Did anyone catch them talking on SEN today about Blues Radio? Basically you can listen in to coverage of the game by Andy Maher, the Dominator, & Sellers.

Yeah, it's not like we performed well without Harry in the forward line. Is It?

The Harry/ruck experiment is probably gone. Not because he's not big enough. (He's taller than both TDK and Pitto). It's because he refused to commit his body in the ruck last week.
The reality is our opportunity to succeed in finals would be enhanced if Harry gave a contest as relieving ruck. The coaches tried it but he didn't buy in sufficiently.

I agree. If we play Kennedy and go all the way to the grand final then he will have 3 games up his sleeve. If we don't play him and we make the grand final and need to bring him in because somebody got injured in a prelim then he will have been out for 10 weeks.

Utter rubbish
You are wrong on this
2 rucks 2 forwards a must to win finals.

Richmond got away with it in 2017 going in with one ruck but only because Adelaide did the same and used their forward Josh Jenkins as a back up.

No other team has won a flag in recent years by sacrificing a marking forwards as relief in ruck.

The problem is Pitto offers literally nothing when he's not rucking, and our forward line is unbalanced with Charlie Harry and a resting ruckman. This is why JSOS is the answer IMO

IMO, it won’t be whether we play Kennedy, but whether he is sub or starting?
If he starts, he’ll be rested, if everything goes well.
Having Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy, Cerra, Dow and Walsh starting means someone like Fogarty, Cottrell or Hollands is left out.
