But as we know, there's no real difference between finishing 5th and 8th, apart from a possible home ground advantage.

Similarly with 1st and 4th, this being particularly stupid.

Might have already been asked, but are we the first team to have a 6 game losing streak immediately followed by a 6(+) game winning streak? I checked that season where Swans started 0-6 and finished 14-8, but they only won 3 in a row after the bad start.

And the answer GreatOne is Yes!

Carlton is the only team to lose 6 in a row and then win more than 7 straight after.

Honourable mentions:

2010 Hawthorn - 6L then 7W
1974 Footscray - 6L then 6W
1976 Carlton - 5L then 9W + Draw

Essendon**: lost last 7 games of 2012 then won first 6 of 2013
Sydney in 2017 lost those first 6 then won 10 of next 11

My predictor appears to show that If gws, dogs and saints all lose today then we are In. Regardless of future results. The head to head matchups of teams playing for finals means that regardless of permutations we can’t be overtaken by more than 3 teams.

I don't think that's right. They could all lose today but win their remaining games & all finish on 52 points.

Great work as always, GOPP.

Yeah but then others vying for top 8 would lose to those 3, meaning only those 3 would overtake us leaving us in 8th at worst

Actually no, even if GWS Dogs Saints all lose today, if we lose the next two we could still finish 9th.

But it's irrelevant cause we're gonna pump GC and GWS and have a crack at overtaking Melbourne or Port for top 4.

"Doing the math"...

Hawks could be the key to Carlton Premiership.

Just beat Collingwood, another confidence booster happening v WB so yes, please Hawks - we'd like you to give Melbourne a tidy-up next week.

Then it's over to the Swans to knock Melbourne into 5th spot as Carlton take 4th.

Unless we're going to do something no other team except Footscray did in 2016 and win Four Finals in a row, finishing 5th - 8th is utterly pointless.

The extra four 'finals' spots were only ever a cynical sop to extract more money out the mug punters who want to delude themselves that despite 3-4 teams being clearly better than everyone else for the season that your mob who've scraped into the bottom half have some mythical 'hope'.

Gimme a break.

So pray or barrack for GWS to win today to keep open Carlton's double-chance for the double-chance!

On ch7 last night they said Carlton are now in the finals. I'm too lazy to work out all the permutations, does anyone know if this is true?

They said it was season over after we lost to Essendon*
Obviously we knew better

Hawks looking likely against the dogs, incredible if they knock off Collingwood and Dogs in consecutive weeks given their stage of development. You'd have to give them a real chance against the dees, which would really open the door for us to move into 4th spot for a final against the filth!

With hawthorn beating WB now only one of WB or Geelong can overtake us. Not both

So let me get this straight.
We have to win our last two games and Melbourne has to lose its last two games.
Then we make fourth.
Go Blues!

Correcto. Melb have hawthorn at the G who just belted Collingwood and off Dogs, then Sydney at the SCG. Very possible

No chance... they were a fingernail away from beating the best side in living memory, they're not going to lose against those jokers

Sydney would need to beat Adelaide away and/or Melbourne at home and make up 4.7% percentage against us.

This is the only way we can miss the 8 now if we fail to beat the suns and giants.

For the love of god let's just get it done next week.
