You could keep TDK and still be $1m+ up to spend for '24.

Weren’t you paying him $850k for a decade?

If you can find where I wrote that I'd love to see it. I'm against 5 year contracts so doubt I'd be advocating 10. Would still keep TDK if given the choice. He has two years to go until he hits free agency, so I'd be offering him a very healthy two year deal and then let the market dictate what he's worth at the end of 2025.

Page 10-11 of this thread & 38-41 of Talking Players.

Perhaps a bit of extra mayonnaise on my part, but the discussion was already deep into fantasy land.

Collingwood have 2x Daicos and Moore plus Quaynor through academy.
Dogs got Libba and Darcy plus Ugle Hagan through academy.
Melbourne get Viney.
Brisbane get Ashcroft and Fletcher last year and Andrews through academy.
No need to even outline who Sydney have got through academy.
Carlton get JSOS (honest toiler but no where near a star) as best father son in last 15-20 years (since Waite) and Akeui as best from academy who isn’t AFL standard yet.

Not all teams have had luck in this respect but it definitely helps and we haven’t had any for 15 years

This.
PS. What happened to Ben Silvagni?

Good question Bluey. Not too sure but I think after he was delisted he went to the Northern Bullants in the VFL for at least a year or two and now is playing in the local leagues

I think Ben is playing for Collingwood VFL.

Trading TDK for me is the right thing. Not only save money but will gives us Pick(s) which we need

Going to be a good player but we have other more important needs

Fair enough. I'll come down in salary - but not too much. $1.3 for the next two years should be enough.

So when Pitto goes down again next year, you're playing O'Keeffe first ruck?

Yes he’s on Collingwood’s VFL list but he’s injured at the moment.

St Kilda, Sydney & Geelong seem to be the ones chasing TDK

Saints have Picks 9, 28, 47, 83 (indicative)
Sydney 17, 30, 36, 44, 55
Geelong 18 & 92

The wildcard in this is that GCS are wanting to trade there first round (Pick 7) because they have Academy kids that will go early and GWS have a number of early picks 3, 12 and possibly one for Himmelberg they don't want to use at once. Not mention WCE who want multiple picks and might be willing to trade Pick One.

We may be happy to trade next years First Round pick as we have the Camporeale kids coming in

A trade with TDK could open up many scenarios

There is also Mirkov, and Lemmey could easily become a Fwd/Ruck but I would be bringing in another Mature Ruck. There is always cheap options around. Even Naismith from Port Melb maybe good as a back up for a year or so

We could, in theory have 3 or even 4 first round picks at the draft.

Trade our future 1st in.
TDK = a first.
Pick 4 ... could trade that for 2 later firsts.

Moneyball pick for ruck is a good idea IMO

Excuse my ignorance

But I read recently there are a lot of academy type picks so does that mean picks will be pushed out? So for example Sydney's 17 could become 24?

I have not followed the drafting/trading talk hardly at all this year. I stupidly thought we would make finals and I would not care about the draft order and trading etc.

Hate to say it but Sydney's Pick 17 probably gets it done.

If you listen to recruiter interviews there seems to be about 3 or even 4 so they will be pushed out a bit depending on your pick.

eg. To get points GCS to trade this years first for our first next year and some later picks this year.

If Austin can do it we could well have 3 picks under 20 (as an example) and then picks 30 & 45. That will some FA's and some smart moneyball type players would be perfect

I'd take it.
Then trade next years first to GCS for this years first.

Go to the draft with 8,9,17 would be perfect

Would supporters be happy with:

Pick 8 - Caddy (Gen Mid/Forward)
Pick 9 - A.Reid (Key Forward)
Pick 17 - Sanders (Mid)
Plus Picks 60, 66

Get a mature depth Ruck (Naismith) - DFA/Rookie
Gresham - FA
Jordan - FA

Then save 2-3 spots for rookies/pre season/DFA to trial some talls/KPP's

Inject some talent and get our Salary Cap back in a good spot

Next year will be Camporeale twins and a good trade or two (or FA)

I am ok with that if true. I assume on less money, at least I would hope so.
When fit, and that is the big if fit, he is an important player.
