Cottrell out means Binns in I guess. or Dow, and Binns sub.

Cottrell, prior to that 2nd qtr vs GCS was very rusty.
We are going to miss him if he's rubbed out. He has pace we need.

If we’ve improved we’ll win this game - if we haven’t we’ll lose.

Sam Mitchell hates our guts - so I’m sure they’ll be right up for this game.

No chance Binns will be the sub.

This would be a good game to start Dow and see if he has what it takes to play a full game at AFL level.

The last thing we want to do after slowly building up his confidence, is not start him until we play Port in a few weeks, and he gets absolutely dominated.

Having said that, I have no idea who gets dropped.

As others have mentioned, Cottrell made it easy for us :)

Who pushes out to the wing? Or would you play Dow there?

Hewett is still a better player than Dow and Binns
Keep Dow as sub
Allow Binns to develop in VFL and don't destroy him like we did Holland's and Cowan

We destroyed Hollands and Cowan? One is injured but probably needed a break anyway the other was injured now building back in the 2s and not far off selection. This isn't a bad team to debut Binns against and I for one would pull the trigger and play both him and Dow in the 22.

Docherty and Acres have been primarily playing wing the past couple of weeks. Cottrell played H/F (and very well surprisingly) and pushed out to the wing occasionally when the others had a rest.
I'd bring in Binns and let him have a run at H/F as a direct replacement for Cottrell. From memory he was a goal kicker when he's played there previously in the 18's. I'd love to see Dow play 4 quarters but his inability to impact in other positions is hurting him again so he may stay as sub.
Hewett to stay in the VFL (though I doubt he will)

The only way I would bring in Hewett is if Kennedy or Cripps is out. Our balance and run was so much better last week with just the two of them

Watching Binns a lot this year I think he can come in and really add to our side. He has been every bit as impressive as Hollands if not more

We rush first year players into side to quickly - they get injured early and struggle for years trying to recover
We have a history of not showing patience when it comes to new players who are straight out of school
Cowans has also missed games in VFL through injury .

there are the odd exceptions like Sam Walsh but if you look at our track record of first year draft picks it is abysmal - we destroy them
Dow , Obrien , SPS , Fisher , Cunningham were never given time to develop and you pay for it in the long run and because they get injured early they start to 2nd guess themselves and you get a group of players that dont go hard at the contest

you can go back as far as Murphy in his first year he got rag dolled and had shoulder issues his entire career

Make them earn their spot and do a proper apprenticeship and get bodies right

I agree, Hewett maybe a better player, but we have too many of his style, we need more balance in the seniors.

Agreed.
Could argue it with a couple of other high draft picks too.

I think Binns would be fine and continue to gather kicks in the AFL.

Hollands has impressed in AFL, and Binns impressed in VFL.

Don't know how you come to the conclusion Binns may have been more impressive than Hollands.

If I don't look at the stats sheets, Binns does go under the radar a bit, but he's a good link man with his short dinky (SPS like) kicks, but also follows up for the next possession. Has great appetite for the footy .

He may become as good or better than Hollands, but we will never know unless he's given a go.

IMO, plenty of time for Binns, and when it becomes mathematically impossible to make Finals then Binns should get some experience in the big league.

The Doc and Acres on the wings.

Bins could be sub and when he gets a call go H/F flank like Cotters did last week.

I would really, really like to see Dow get a FULL game. He can play in the midfield rotations maybe. Did more than OK in his what 1 quarter stint last week? No harm in giving him a shot at more minutes...

From what Ive seen, He hasn't done anything wrong, maybe once in his last 2 and only quarters of AFL.

I thought Hewett would have looked as good coming of the back of a CB and getting the big boot in forward, but glad Dow did TBH, that's why its his to keep.
