Exactly

There will be reasons

Lots of things would go into picking a side week in week out

But if you listen carefully to what Voss says, reading between the line it is clear to me he is big on fundamentals. So winning the contest (win the ball) and being strong defensively. So these would appear to be the first 2 things Voss thinks have to be in place.

And I suspect also Voss is very big on hardness. That ties in with point 1 winning the contest and also reflects the way he played the game.

With all of the above you can sort of see how Ed fits in.

Mad if we dont play Young.

We tried it against Swans because their KPDs and McDonald were all out, and got found too short in the backline.
Gov and Kemp are good HB's , well Kemp can be. NOT tall enough by big boys.

Well it depends what the priorities are internally, doesn't it?!
I half suspect the reason Ed is back in the team is because Voss is trying to set standards. In Ed at least you know you will get a genuine hard running, head over the ball effort. And that comes off the back of the fact Ed is seen as one of if not the most dedicated trainer at the club and not just that but also the way he prepares his body for his AFL career.
Similarly, it is obvious Young was dropped for a particular reason. I have my theories which I am very confident on.
And so I think he only plays if Voss thinks Young has changed his ways.

And then of course you need to balance all that with trying to win the game and if omitting young is to our detriment in terms of match ups.

That's my point.

Horses for courses.

Gov. Kemp, SOS are not built to mind 200ck 3rd tall forward/ruck.
Its stupid to think so and recent history has told us so.

I doubt he will be dropped.
I would put my money on Weiters preferring Young to play 2nd Kahuna.
The next best option is Sam Durdin, and he's still out injured.

So, am I correct in saying that we have not lost any matches this season when Dow and Martin have played together??
Talk about an unbreakable omen… I’m pumped!! :-D

2 things we don’t even know young and Weitering have a thing it’s only because the Scooper Pooper talked about some rift he makes things up
Under No circumstances should Ed be playing ahead of others love what he has done but is a ball butcher and is finished
The team isn’t great if he keeps getting a senior game and it doesn’t allow us to canvas other options on our list
I suspect he is there to tag Merrett but who knows probably be on the hff and he has never been one of those

I actually think Ed is an underrated forward operator. He seems to have a knack for kicking goals that make commentators shout "from the unlikeliest of sources!", but after a while you have to ask, maybe he's better than we think? Strange one because his field kicking can be diabolical, but a quick snap from 35m often seems to find the mark.

Anyway, I'm pumped that Martin is in the starting 18. Could be a first-quarter sub just waiting to happen, or it could be just what we needed. When fit, he ticks a lot of empty boxes.

I find it strange Martin is in the team ahead of Cuningham because IMO Cuningham looked a lot fitter last week just ion so far as speed and ability to cover the ground. Martin didn't move well for mine.
I suspect this is a desperate move to try and kick a goal or two.

On Ed, I agree he is underrated generally. I mean he has played a lot of football games and so would have an innate ability to read the game on the ground, know where to go to to get the ball or defensively close off space etc. But then I see him come on as the sub and have multiple poor kicks straight away and I go into cringe mode.

Look my view is this is probably our last roll of the dice this year. If the coach wants to go with some experience then I get it.

I've been a massive fan of Ed. Underrated and an incredible work ethic. But this year when I have been to games he is embarrassing. Players run past him, you can see him trying to push to a contest and can't keep up. Even playing a lock down role he has struggled. His leg speed is gone and that's when players should retire. And he wasn't quick anyway

With a side struggling for leg speed his selection makes no sense to me whichever way you look at it

Ed is cooked. he should never play seniors again ... watching him try and keep pace with daicos from a stoppage in our F50, by the centre circle ed had slowed to a crawl as daicos ran on and eventually in their F50 gave the final handpass to a pies goal.

why he's selected is emblematic of this team and where we're headed. (bottom 4 if we lose this game)

Reminds me of Fraser Brown in 2000. Brown is one of my all time favourites but in 2000 he was done. His leg speed like Curnow was never great but he really dropped off quickly and watching players just jog past him and him busting a gut to try and keep up was hard to watch.

Ed should of retired before MSD

Poor selections no desire to change it up and rewarding lack of effort that’s pretty poor

When I look at the bottom 4 players I don't see Ed in this team as that.
Maybe in part its me backing the MC.
I know he's done but he's got a job to do:

Get Merrett.

That name is what this rivalry is about.
