couldn't see this anywhere and thought it was pretty important to talk about now that it's a given.

Away strip edict for clubs
By Greg Denham
February 2, 2006

THE AFL will make it compulsory that all clubs wear alternate away playing strips.

The league yesterday informed club chief executives and marketing managers that they must provide an alternate away guernsey to avoid clashing with similar opposition colours.

Under the heading of updated commercial operations guidelines, a letter from AFL general manager of commercial operations Gillon McLachlan was sent to the 16 clubs.

In part, it read: "The AFL has taken the position to mandate that all clubs must have a main playing uniform and an alternate playing uniform."

It is understood that clubs must provide two uniforms from this season.

Its about time the afl moved with the times. It'll be great and another significant marketing opportunity for the club. Anything incorporating silver, white and navy blue would look great.

I seem to remember our proposed alt strip in the age last year: navy cfc on silver/gray with navy sides

Piece of crap grab for money. As if $120 and upwards isn't enough.

There's no logical reason to have an away jumper for 95% of away matches, other than money.

Remember our theme song?

WE ARE THE OLD DARK NAVY BLUES.

Not f*cking silver!

when we do adopt an alternative strip, i hope it's only used when clashes occur, and not every away or interstate game we play.

any chance some one could drag up some of the proposed strips?

This is great in my opinion.

I can't watch another Carlton v St Kilda/Carlton v Melbourne type game at the misty Telstra dome.

And I agree with you Gez - only when clashes occur.

And lose the white shorts rule. White shorts look terrible.

I'm no authority on English, but shouldn't it be alternative strip? Alternate would in my mind mean changing every other week...

I think Alternate is the AFL's push: to get clubs to alternate their strips week-in, week-out.

Nothing in it more than money.

Carlton should only ever consider jumper changes against Adelaide and Melbourne. And even the Adelaide one, the Crows could change their jumper to a predominantly red/yellow one - red or yellow yoke, as opposed to the ridiculous situation where we played them while they were wearing their navy-yoked jumper.

And just watch Fat Ed get his way - even though Collingwood has altered their jumper several times in the last decade. They should go back to the black/white bars all round, rather than the black back.

About time. Watching us play Melbourne was always a nightmare when the ball was at the other end.

I totally agree - but the problem has been a lot worse since Melbourne were allowed to change from royal blue & red to navy blue & red. Ditto with West Coast, who changed their original royal blue to navy.
Carlton apparently didn't protest about either.

Is that the negative picture of our strip?

How unimaginative if its blue on white!!!
