Making finals (even a first week exit) and using that as a benchmark for the following season is a winners attitude.

That's what every club should believe and strives for privately.

The horseshit they feed media and their own supporters is just to cover their arses just in case things go pear shaped... that's head office 101

But I don't like hearing players repeat that horseshit publicly though... gives me cause for concern as to what messages are filtering down.

Yep defeatist, making excuses and being defensive!!

A negative and defeatist person will never succeed and that is the clubs problem.

We breed excuses. Loser attitude.

A winner will do what it takes to be successful.

Actually ‘doesn’t want to just make up the no’s.’ could be taken differently.
In other words, I need more high draft picks or mini rebuild and we just don’t have the list.
I bloody hope not because the players would have read the room by now.

I would love to just make the 8 and even play one final. I think the players would too and will give them a taste of what to expect.

Not limp there and go out in week one ................ i.e. look at the players who are out Fisher , O"Brien , Dow . players that are not hard and will wilt under finals pressure . Anything can be interpreted however you want. That's down to the individual and their biases/grievances etc, but IMO that's a verrrryyy long bow to draw from his comments.

We have the reigning Brownlow medalist, the past two Coleman medalists and a recent Rising Star winner.
We have the talent on the list.
I agree with you, there is no reason why we shouldn't be playing finals.
Our injury list is much smaller now.
There are no excuses.
