Last year's game vs. WCE in Perth was utterly bizarre... 5.4 to 0.0 in the first quarter, then they kick 7.3 in the 2nd, another 1.2 in the opening minutes of the 3rd, then they don't score again for the rest of the game... we close with a 7.4 to 0.0 final quarter and win by 63 points.

And in typical TC fashion, most of the post-game talk was "WHY DID WE GIVE UP SEVEN GOALS IN THE SECOND QUARTER?!?!?"

I'll take a 63 point win next week, thanks very much!

That second quarter cost us a spot in the finals though.

Ed's strength is his ability to out run opponents for endurance. He was awful yesterday but either plays seniors or 2nds. Never sub.

Fair.

If Cottrell is good to go I'd bring him in, even as a sub if necessary.
I'd say to swap him and Hollands out so the kid can get a rest, but I fear he won't be ready for a full run yet.

There has been a lot of chat about insipid performances yesterday but not much mention of Fisher who I thought was the most pathetic of all - avoiding contact, avoiding teammates in better positions, holding on to the ball too long and then, repeatedly, kicking directly to a Saints defender.

There is no way he should be selected this week.

I would go close to dropping JSOS as well - that simple miss from dead in front turned the game. I know he puts in but effort is not enough - he needs to hold his marks and kick those goals. I know Kemp has been playing in defence but I have liked the few times he has played up forward. The other option would be Kennedy - a very solid mark and a good kick for goal, also allows Dow to come in and play his natural position.

Because the warning signs of a choke were there, and we all know what happened after this game.

I was at that WC game last year and it was indeed truly bizarre.

Add the fact that we handled the ball better in the wet in the 4th than in the dry during the 2nd...

We simply MUST see a response and an EMPHATIC one. A win of at least 8 - 10 goals should be expected. However if we show anything like the insipid, stagnant game plan which has no system (like most of this season), we will lose the unlosable IMO.

Honey, Motlop, Fisher must be dropped.

I think Hewett and/or Kennedy are still playing injured, so at least one of them too.

Dow, has to, MUST get picked. We all know he has deficiencies, but a player being banished to the reserves for as long as he has, who logically has been instructed to make an impact (or at least thats the least he has been asked to show), has done it in spades, every game in the VFL this season. Thats a FACT. His performances have proved it.

But more than that. he needs to be given at least a 3 game show at senior level and then we re-assess. We have gifted Fisher (as just one example) a start in every game this season, despite just one decent quarter effort the whole year. It may turn out he does no deliver but u just have to give him a chance surely?

Cincotta needs to stay in, not just next week but beyond that.
He was better than I expected.
Even when Saad and Doc are back they need to find a way to keep Cincotta in.
Assuming he holds his form of course.
If you have leg speed and can play you should be in the senior side.

He hasn't even played VFL.
He won't come in.

Sadly, I say with good reason.
Are we going to get back on track or is the rot going to set in?

Doc in the middle, easy.

Have to start thinking different Vossy

Need speed to get out of tight areas ... bring in Dow

Walsh to the wing ... he has scoring impac there plus you will get him on the inside in any case

Kennedy as the 3rd forward ... better kick than jack and better on the lead

Have to consider Binns, Carrol and Fogarty ... Motlop out

Forget the ring a ring a rosy with kicks around the backline ... once a player is in the corridoor they take off through ... try and do this via Cincotta

Kennedy forward isn't a bad idea. Guess he is no slower than Jack in terms of defensive forward pressure. Though, with our purposefully slow ball movement he probably won't get many decent laneways to lead into.
Whatever they do don't put Kennedy on the opposition's best small forward again.
Butler tore him a new one.

As an aside, of course the Jack miss was terrible and that plus his dragging the ball in free arguably changed the game, but he did respond quite well and was one of the few who really, clearly was busting his arse late. Jack gives a shit.

Fisher is a tough one. He at least can run and carry but his lack of hardness at the contest has caught the eye too many times this year.
Trade bait for mine.

Ironically, if anything that game hinted at the need for a more defensively minded gameplan - the same kind of gameplan that has everyone gnashing their teeth today - because it showed for the umpteenth time last season how porous we could be when the momentum swung to the other team. Not sure how it presaged the chokes that undid great performances against the Demons and Pies in the last two rounds of the season, but I guess if you expect nothing but doom and gloom then every moment of adversity proves you right :).

More tripe from GreatEx.
No good having a defensive game plan if you can't score.
Saints looked so good on the rebound against us, oh despite having such a defensive mindset and structure.
Keep sprouting your vindictive baloney GreatEx.
I call it as I see it. We are an average team who have gone backwards.

Agree we need a response, but beating WCE doesn’t atone for their sins. They need to halve the next 6 rounds or they’re toast.
