Hollands and Cowan both re-signed until the end of 2026.
Ridiculous. Can’t we wait to see how their bodies hold up to a full season first? It’s the Philp situation all over again.
Might take four years to answer that question.
I don’t think we’re allowed to pay them more than the rookie deal. If they’ve got the aptitude and attitude, and they’re content to take a minor bump ($200-250k) for another two, why wait?
Our development team has been shite in the past, but you’ve got to back the considerable investment in. If the hallmark of this new era is that kids who develop between the ears are locked away long enough to see their bodies develop, then it can only be a good thing.
You can’t extend deals based solely on aptitude and attitude - results matter too. Best of luck to Hollands & Cowan, but they were locked in for the next 18 months - there was no need to extend their contracts now. In fact, it takes away a short term performance incentive.
I would have ‘risked’ them surpassing expectations and squeezing more dollars out of us next year instead of committing to them for four years before the real stuff starts in their first season. Opinions on players can change very quickly once the grind of a season kicks in…
I wonder if it will be a syndesmosis injury or a stress fracture they develop now?

If Carlton pays 8-900k to 6 players Harry Charlie Cripps Weitering Williams Walsh
, then 650-800k to 6 others….
Hello TDK.
We need to lock in a few low salaries. Quite a few
That’s the game we are in.
If we can commit quality players who could overtake best 22 we do it.
If you look at Swans VFL team, they’re all developing players coz Franklin, Heeney……you know.
Austin isn’t bad at his caper.
I bet Holland and Cowan come good.
