Why am I more pissed off about the result - a loss with the last kick of the game.

FML.

I'm exactly the same, he can be unsighted for large chunks of a game then bob up and kick 3 goals.

I just can't help but feel that he'll explode in one game and kick 7

Ideally Pittonet subbed off midway through the third for Fisher/Honey.

I can’t see it working out that way.

- You play two rucks to maintain strength in that role for the full game. I just can’t see how you stay on track with that by pulling one out after half a game.
- You can’t hide one on the bench without affecting the rotations elsewhere, so they’re both on the field.
- Limited interchanges, on top of all the usual logistics with getting a follower to the bench makes it impossible to play ‘short n sharp’ shifts in the position.
- If you bury one in the forward line & they can’t have an impact, then the need for the extra transition defender is going to come on in a hurry.

Some perfectly valid points there, and I think I agree with a few.

I'd look at it as, you go in with two as insurance, because you feel that if the main one falls over, either your structural integrity goes to shit having to move whiteboard magnets around, or you feel that their main ruck having that much dominance would impact the result too much. I don't think we're going to win too many games from the ruck, but we'll probably lose a few.

In our very specific case - I think you're right because Harry - Charlie - TDK - Silvagni - Martin is too top heavy. That's more of an issue around playing Martin half-fit, and finding a different role for Jack or deciding he offers more than TDK.

In an ideal world, you'd see how TDK fared on a wing if for no other reason than because we're running out of options there, but the TOG metrics are putrid and I don't think he'd have the fitness to do it.

Maybe you've only got one camera angle like I usually do.

If you get to watch behind the goals camera or follow Martin in a live game, he runs and runs and runs. He gets up and down the ground filling in spots and providing an option.

That relentless running often is unrewarded. And he does throw his weight around. One tough cookie. No wonder he's regularly on the injury list.

I like what he does and what he can do, its just the ongoing soft tissue injury that shits me....and the calf is a cow

I agree. I always feel the side is better with Martin playing. Even when we lose. Funny really!

He seems to have a good record against Richmond, if memory serves

Does making it through a game constitute a good record?

Just making it to the G without doing a hammy is winning, by our standards

He booted 4 goals in his first game with us against Richmond in Round 1 2020. At that moment I thought he was going to be a brilliant pick-up for us. 3 years later and the jury is still out because he can't stay on the park.

I do like him in the team for balance, but he really does need to stay fit and string a solid number of games together to be an automatic selection.

Sorry

No shit, that’s how I read it first time & thought ‘good one, Mil’.

I think someone left the door open to the worry room.

If either of (preferably both) Tom or Harry were covering the miles that the other three do, it wouldn’t be top heavy at all. But, they don’t.

At the end of the day, Silvagni’s pressure is streets ahead of the other forwards & Tom only wins 30% of his ruck contests. That’s a fair result for a #2, if they are having an input up forward. Jackson is a 30% ruck, but he plays from in front when he’s up forward. Tom doesn’t.

With our midfield, Jack doesn’t have to do too much to close that gap in the ruck. He can contest the ruck defensively & as long as we get the clearance, it’s a successful contest.

If Motlop doesn't play we will still win

It's about pressure. Owies Fisher Martin and then the mids can still apply pressure. Hollands Cerra O'Brien Ed Curnow can also go through there. So can Docherty.

The positive about this it can make us more unpredictable. We have the talent, we just need to back it up with effort

B: Cincotta Young McGovern
HB: Newman Weitering Saad
C: Acres Cripps O'Brien
HF: Martin McKay Fisher
F: Owies Curnow Silvagni
Foll: Pittonet Hewett Docherty
Int: Cerra Kennedy Cowan TDK (Hollands)

Maybe: Motlop Durdin

Others: Ed Curnow, Plowman, Carroll, Binns, Honey, Dow

Unavailable but back within 1-4 weeks: Walsh Marchbank Cottrell Cuningham Fogarty

Unavailable long term: Williams, Boyd, Philp

Still a bloody good side

Open training Sunday, March 12.
Gates open 9am. Anybody know what time actual training is and what else happens on the day e.g. players signing/photos after training?
(I also posted this in Training thread but doesn’t seem to have many people looking at it so thought I’d try here to help out with me taking my young fella tomorrow)
