I’m understanding why Abns couldn’t trust our injury prone players/ trend.
We are only 4 weeks from March 17 and one more piracy team tongel the round 1 team.

Kemp also missed todays games. Add him and it’s 14 players: 4 best 22 at most.

Walsh is the only one that isn’t replaceable.
We don’t have another Williams, but we have a variety of options in that spot.
The rest are in a group of players vying for the 21st-23rd spots.
I see what you mean but at some stage we'll need to call on our depth players. If they're underdone or unavailable, we feel it. All injuries are a blow to the list.

And that’s 14 before the first practice match!

We are bound to get injuries when the real thing starts so we’re constantly playing catch up.

I make it thirteen that were unavailable for selection today:
Walsh
Williams
McGovern
Martin
Owies
C.Durdin
Cottrell
Marchbank
Cunningham
Kemp
Fogarty
Boyd
Philp

I expect only a few of those to be ready for AFL selection in round one.

I hear you both. At some point ‘next man up’ becomes ‘last man standing’.

At this stage, we have six players unavailable for the first 3-4 rounds. We’ve replaced two of those already & there might be space to replace another one or two in the MSD after round 11.

Six. Not 13 or 14.

Marchbank Cottrell Fogarty close to Rd One
Walsh by Rd 4. Going very well
Boyd 4 - 6 weeks
Cuningham waiting on tests
Philp Williams ruled out for season

Williams the big loss. Fingers crossed Cunners will be back soon, ie less then 4.
Other than that, we are in a bloody good spot. As long as we don’t get no more major player issues.

I agree.
A bit of perspective.
Williams is the only one of note written off the year.

Carlton's physical approach has led to some sore bodies. But the club is confident it is not the reason behind a summer in which a handful of important senior regulars have been forced to spend large chunks on the sidelines.

While the off-season absentees have been frustrating for Voss, the Carlton coach is mindful to separate the events of last year – where the Blues had a staggering number of players on the injury list across the campaign's last month, as they lost their final four matches to plummet from the top-eight – from what has occurred this summer.

I'm seeing your POV clearly abns

FMD, Marchy can't take a trick.

Calf? How old is he? 26yo with calf issues

Are calf injuries ever "minor"?

Usual suspects not participating in practice matches Cunningham Marchbank McGovern Martin Williams

Every year with these guys really need to start taking stock in respect to non durable players and our list management

This is not a one year or 2 year thing this is across many years

We can’t continue to carry all these guys injuries and salary cap is a two fold problem

Such a big issue these days. You need players that can play nearly every week. If Cuningham & Marchbank can't play consistent football this year they need to be cut. McGovern traded. Martin in same boat. Williams is contracted so he will stay

When I read that Marchy is resting a calf, I felt I had to agree with those who side with the idea that he's just not ... I can say it, but I can't type it.

I can say I agree with you frank. Its every friggin year since way back to Bolton days...not saying Boltons fault in any way.

Should SOS have known? I didnt, so I dont know how he would know. But there's no doubt about SOS' attraction to bargain buys, I like to call speculation with risk.

I'm getting so sick of debating the issue, defending their spot on the list, but FMD it feels like :banghead:

Targeting and recruiting injury prone players smacks of desperation for mine

It’s why you generally think they are considered to be bargains

I think it places too much risk on the list and generally fails

Durability should always be a feature of recruiting
