A phone call from Head of List Management Nick Austin meant O’Keefe could rest easy.

“I had a conversation with Nick about Alex a couple of weeks ago, after Zaccy Williams unfortunately did his knee,” he said.

“When I saw Nick’s name pop up on my phone when I knew it was deadline day, I was hoping and thinking it’d be good news.

“Nick gave me the courtesy phone call and, knowing the journey we’ve been on together, it’s fair to say I got a bit emotional on the phone.

O’Keefe departed his role as the coach of the Carlton Reserves at the end of last year, stepping away from AFL football and moving to Warrnambool with his wife and two young sons.

As much as the Blues drafted in the key cornerstones of its predicted round 1 team, the reality is Carlton has traded in almost half the side.

It was a strategic move to build the depth Carlton didn’t have after a wipe-out in the 2014 draft and failed trades with Greater Western Sydney in 2015 and 2016.

In total, 10 players in the likely season-opening side have come via trades or free agency, including five of the starting six defenders and the bulk of the midfield.

True but we also technically delisted him and re-listed him as a rookie.

He was never delisted. Amidst the COVID makey-uppy, we were allowed to move him to the rookie list without having to delist him first.

On the fringes of a struggling Blues team, he had been delisted at the end of 2020 and then re-drafted as a rookie.

Adam Saad pick 10, hardly a shrewd move - Saad was out of contract - but we blinked on Dodoro’s bullshit bluffing.

If the only way to keep TDK at the end of the year is Zac Williams and our first rounder as a cap dump, would you do it?
