I'd prefer they train using EA Sports

Probably get RSI

CARLTON will continue to take a cautious approach to the return of Sam Walsh, despite expectations the superstar midfielder will reintegrate back into full training before round one following off-season surgery on his troublesome back.

Walsh underwent a micro-discectomy procedure just before Christmas to repair a back injury that bothered him during the latter stages of last year, with the surgery completed to remove a bulging disc portion that would relieve pressure on a nerve.

Blues midfielder Cuningham suffers injury at training
By SEN 20 minutes ago

The Blues are sweating on another injury suffered by midfielder David Cuningham.

Cuningham, who has played since 2021 after tearing his ACL and further complications, dislocated his shoulder at training according to SEN’s Sam Edmund.

He had worked his way back into full training over summer before this latest setback.

“There are some really nervous people at Carlton after David Cuningham went down with what could prove to be a nasty shoulder injury,” Edmund told SEN Mornings.

“The injury prone speedster dislocated his shoulder yesterday and there is at the moment some chance he could need surgery.

“The worst case scenario would be a reconstruction which would effectively be season over, now that’s a six-month layoff. Of course the same situation that was confronted by Max King and St Kilda before Christmas.

“Cuningham was wrestling with teammates towards the end of training yesterday, something of a muck around, nothing unusual, and the shoulder has just popped up. He had just got himself back into match simulation and full practice.

“He hasn’t played since tearing his ACL back in 2021 and has dealt with complications and setbacks and a serious shoulder injury.

“Carlton have got a few issues. Sam Walsh and Zac Williams we know, Mitch McGovern with the back problem, Corey Durdin the calf at the moment.”

The 25-year-old has played 41 games for the Blues since being selected with pick 23 in the 2015 National Draft.

Injury update coming in the next 24 hours. Expect...

Boyd, Cottrell, Philp - Foot
Walsh - Back
Williams - Knee

NEW
Durdin - Calf
Cuningham - Shoulder
McGovern - Back

Hewett/Kennedy/Pittonet back into full training, so are Plowman and Marchbank with their respective niggles.

Spot on SB.
I wonder what the concern is with Gov?
I'm starting to doubt he will stand up this year when we need him.

I'd like to know more about Cottrell too.
Plenty of time for Corey to be ready for Sydney praccy game.

We need to get more ruthless and learn when to cut our losses.
A lot of our players who are injured now and have long term injuries, seem to have them every season.
It is clear their body's are not cut out for the rigours of AFL footy. They should have been delisted by now and surely they will be come seasons end.

This.

We should also cease this ridiculous practice of recruiting, be it via trade or draft injured players.
Martin, McGovern, Cuningham, Williams and Marchbank all had injuries/fitness issues before they came to Carlton.
The proof is in the pudding. All of these guys have proven to be terribly frail and bad investments.

Does anyone know the contract situation with these players (Martin, McGovern, Cuningham, Williams and Marchbank)?

I get we were desperate to lure talent and our choices were limited, but it hasn't worked in the above instances.

Someone may correct me, but my understanding is that Gov, DC, Marchy and Philp are all out of contract at the end of this year.
Martin next year and Williams has 2 more years (or is it 3)?

McGovern, Martin & Williams have been unmitigated disasters for us. $ invested would have to be somewhere around $2.5m combined. % match time would be somewhere between 40% & 50%. It hasn't worked.

If it's reco for Cunners then he is surely done. It's a shame. An unfulfilled talent but like others have said enough is enough with these blokes

I agree - we need to cut/stop recruiting these types.

Surely DC and Philp aren't renewed again.
Marchbank and McGovern would want to stay fit and have really good seasons.

Wrestling with teammates after training??
Are they kidding??
That sounds like a dumb idea at any time let alone after training when presumably their muscles, tendons etc would all be loaded up and fatigued.

Cuningham even when he has played hasn’t imposed himself enough on the games he has played
Mc Govern injured again
What a joke
Martin 2024
Williams 2026
McGovern Cuningham 2023
I warned everyone here about Mc Govern in 2018
Even when he has played he has been overall very ordinary
If Mc Govern and Cuningham can’t get on the park and show some consistency then cut them
They’ll probably end up at The Saints

It’s a footy club.

Besides, if it came out there, it could’ve just as easily come out if he’d got into a scrap during a game. It’s not like he was locked up in a Fujiwara armbar.

We can hope for the best but I think we’re all prepared for the worst. We’ve seen this movie too many times.

Yep - they will say re-hab is going well, no surgery then sneak out an injury update in the hype of the week of Round 1 saying he's undergone a full shoulder reco........
