Ok.
Thanks for the feedback.
What'd you think of the video?
Video was quite good, but IMO there are a couple of things which you could do to put your own stamp on future videos.
• You definitely need a hand-held mic of some sort, the long directional type ones would work best, as they help omit background noise. And most video cams these days have "line in" plugs for that.
• If you're using a hand-held mic, make a "Sexy Squad" plaque to go on it like the ones you see on the news which advertise different radio networks. Who knows you might even get it seen on the news, Sports Tonight, Fox Footy etc if you get yourself into one of the training, or post-match Press Conferences.
• If you can, try to conduct the interviews in a place which isn't a brick-lined breezeway or similar, to try and cut down distracting echo. And if it's breezy or windy, defenitely use a "popper-stopper" (the foam mic covers, if you didn't know the term)
• As well as the usual "What do you hope to achieve" type questions, throw in some "Sexy Squad" questions, like
"Being drafted to the most successful VFL/AFL club must have been pretty daunting and exciting. Have you changed your grooming regimen to keep up with the higher level of attractiveness at the top level?"
• Keep the cam on the player, a bit tighter than in the MM video, and cut in later some "noddies". This is where the camera cuts back to the interviewer looking concerned, nodding agreeing, etc. If you want some idea of how they're done, or how they look, check out
A Current Affair or
Today Tonight, or for even better ones in a slightly satirical manner,
Frontline. The "noddies" are always filmed after the interview and cut in.
• Film the interview in an "Over the Shoulder" or "Point-of-View" style, where PJ (Or whoever is interviewing) can be seen only as a blurred silhouette, as the camera is looking over his shoulder. This way, the interviewer is facing the subject, which helps with the Mic placement also. Again check out
ACA, TT or
Frontline.
• Set up some "interviwing comfy chairs" or something like that.
Be different!
