Thanks for food for thought Normal.

How many of our list are from Bendigo and Golden Square?

Nah, don't tell me.

We share this city with 9 other teams...and country boys equals....I hope the number is favourable

I know the answer. They talked about it on SEN or Trade Radio this morning.

I believe it’s 4 City kids.

They have a recruiting approach of country kids.

SOS was asked about it too, so must have been Trade Radio, as he was given shit about recruiting City kids.

Anyway, I grew up in Bendigo.

If you’ve seen how the Bendigo league is traveling, you’d be thankful.

Less than half of the Loddon Valley league can field an u18 side. Heathcote league is in a mini revival of sorts, but the wheel turns slow.

Whole region is going to the dogs.

Was up there last week, and a couple of mates were talking about it. Not to happy with how the Pioneers squad was put together.

Don’t need me, just listen to those who do, or have done a recruiting role on Trade Radio.

I’m just highlighting it is a recruiting strategy that has worked.

The other aspect of it is the apprenticeship many of them do in the VFL.

They certainly know how to unearth "hidden" gems

I think it's a chicken and egg argument

Geelong are the only regional AFL team...GC maybe but they are irrelevant IMO

Are they smart to not recruit that many city kids or is the lure of a smaller town enticing for country kids?

it's definitely a 'buyers market' for the recruiters at Geelong

PS. Henry and Atkins are both St Joeys boys. Blicavs and Guthrie are Calder Cannons (outer west Melbourne)

I just believe their geographical location has afforded them many benefits.

Blicavs and Guthrie are Sunbury boys - hardly neighbourhood Geelong, if anything closer to Essendon*.

Which "lifestyle" would you take, from the following, if you were from Sunbury?
A: West coast lifestyle/Geelong a vibrant city
B: Effendopes at some hangar

There you go....Geelong aint that far away after all

Great news re Harry re-signing. Club has done well to lock in key players (Cripps, Walsh, Charlie and H) to long term deals over the past 12-13 months

Like.

The modernisation of the Geelong region has helped too.

Sunbury is an outer suburb of Melbourne- attraction of inner city café Melbourne culture just as attractive- but yes granted no one would want to go to the hangar.
