Sam Sturt from Freo might be worth a look. He is a talented tall half forward flank who struggled to get on the park from 2019-21. I'm not sure if he has had injury problems this year, and if not why he isn't getting a game. Was a first round draft pick and I remember watching him play a couple of years ago and thinking he showed promise.

Our picks should be used on best available.

I would love to see saad and kemp on the wings.
I am pretty sure we have our player base we just need to move the pieces around.

Agree. Both seem more suited to the wing but more importantly we have our players!!

Have to believe that if Kemp could run, he’d be on the wing already.

Moneyball….

we need to moneyball our way through the
next three draft/trade periods…!

I’ve forgotten…like Docherty….correct me if I’m
wrong…but we didn’t pay a heap for Doc…?

we clearly need these types…”Charlie Cameron”…
”Papley”…”Langdon”…”Gawn”…from the trade period…!

but as far as the draft goes…surely it’s gotta be
best player available…no matter what…!

kindest regards tommi

Yes good comparison. Appears to be a classy 3rd tall and I know some Dockers fans that rate him.

Look, everybody knows Hopper's on the move, so you'd think if Austin was interested he'd have already phoned Hopper's people. So my advice and Austin's answer would be 'Yeah/Nah we'll pass thanks.' I'd expect Austin to be looking for players we need. Do you have any ideas in that area or are you enjoying chewing this particular bone too much?

No idea I just like the lad. You asked where he plays. He would let guys like Cerra and Walsh get on the outside and for Kennedy and Cripps to push forward. His 2022 was cruelled but his 2021 was quality. Voss is a contested ball Coach. Hopper’s game is based on that. I wouldn’t throw the kitchen sink at him but I would be making enquires, but that’s just me. I’m a fan.

Regards Cazzesman

Yeah, I like the lad too - he's a hometown boy afterall and I took a bit of an interest in him in the his days (and Kennedy who's from a town up the road). What you're suggesting his recruitment will do (allow some our other mids to get on the outside and push forward), we can do already - Cripps, Hewitt, Walsh on the ball with Kennedy and Cerra pushing forward (or whatever combo you want). We did this earlier in the season with Cripps and Kennedy going forward) but we didn't seem to do much in the second half of the season (except for the occasional Cripps expedition). Probably because having too many slow pokes on the forward line was contributing to the opposition scoring heavily against us.

What I would like to see is some of our midfielders racing across the HF line and jamming it home from 50.

Jack Carroll has more upside than Hopper IMO.

The kid offers something that is different to our other mids.

His ability to get out of traffic in the wet on Saturday was impressive, just needs another strong preseason and he will be best 22.

I'm intrigued about what Voss wants to do with SOJ and the 'third tall' forward next year. He was terrific as a 2nd ruck, but was pretty awful forward 3 out of the last 4 weeks. Makes our forward line very slow. Not surprising we get hurt so badly on the rebound. Also got dropped late in the year, when everyone in the media thought he was going well.

I suspect his best role would be as another inside midfielder. But we've got a stack of those types already.

And thats i wouldn't have a problem grabbing Mitchell or Hopper .

Jesus wept.

Hopper and Caddy are built like twins but Caddy took 1 contested mark every two games while Hopper takes 12 games to get 1 contested mark (that is, out of his 327 career marks, 9 of them were contested). Good luck parking him in the pocket for the big golden grab (and then watch him miss +50% of his shots on goal).

Shit Bill , sure thats right . What about his ability to jag a goal .................anyhow , regardless , i like Hopper as a player . Something about the bloke . And regardless of the stats , i would be happy if we got him . Besides , he looks terrible in that hideous orange jumper and he shouldn't have to endure that for his whole career . Yeah , a changeup to The Old Dark Navy Blue he deserves that at least . Funny , everybody looks better in our jumper . Exhibit A Earl Spalding . Jeez he looked like a deadset poonce in his Dees jumper and looked a Beast in our Carlton jumper . Suits everyone it does .

He's got a tad of the Pendlebury's about him, does Carroll. Can get out of traffic but also makes very good attacking decisions.

I don’t hate this idea. The two main things I’d be keen to know are - 1) what’s his defence pressure like - ie. does he lay tackles and fight to keep the ball in attack?; and 2) is he over his injuries - the last thing we need is another injury prone player.

In the future i sure hope that happens coz the kid has undoubted talent , almost elite talent ....................but it has to happen and for some unknown reason our youngsters don't go on with it .

I am missing something or I'm overcritical of Carroll after I was quite bullish on him in the preseason.

I thought his kicking in the preseason and his form warranted selection, but after a couple of AFL games, at the tender age of 19yo his field kicking and kicking for goal deserted him, as did his poise.

Since his return to the VFL he hasn't set the world on fire, and I thought his last 2 weeks were average, and nowhere near elite. I know everyone wants him to succeed, but imo he needs to improve a hell of a lot to become elite in the AFL.

He was picked in the draft around the 60's, so I said to myself I shouldnt expect too much this early in his development, but there's a lot of praising going on. I thought his kicking was poor and his shot at goal from 35 was poor in the Final. He would have nailed that in the preseason. When he got the ball he just bombed it even when he had time and space.

A bit too early to call him a certainty imo ... who knows, another full preseason may just be the tonic.

Surprised about Stocker. You’ve got to wonder whether there’s something going on behind the scenes as I felt his performances warranted a one year deal at least.
