My mail is that he isn't happy and hasn't been all season.
Either way, if he is as happy as some suggest, I'd get rid of him on that alone.
I want players who demand success for themselves and the team.
If you're happy being at a club where you regularly get 30+ touches at vfl level but can't crack it for an afl game, especially when we're missing Walsh, Hewett and Kennedy. Not to mention a less than 100% Cerra and banged up Cripps, you better be filthy. If you're not, you have the wrong attitude. Time to move on. Simple.

I guess we need some experience in the VFL but that is a surprise. I can’t see how he plays AFL next year, unless we have a mountain of injuries. God help us.

Well, it sounds like Dow wants to stay at Carlton to break into the side and prove himself says Andy Maher.

Quote:
Maher understands the 22-year-old wants to stay and fight for his place at IKON Park next season.

“This is what I’ve been told,” he told SEN’s The Run Home.

“He’s contracted, so if he was to be traded it would have to be with his agreement.

“I’ve been told Paddy said, ‘Nup, I’m not leaving, I want to be here’.

“He lives with Matt Kennedy and Sam Walsh, I believe they’re still domiciled together … ‘I want to prove myself here, I want to work my way into this team, don’t give up on me, I haven’t given up yet’.

“So that’s what I’ve been told that he’s said to Carlton.

“Now that could be bunkum and he could end up somewhere else. The kid, from I’ve been told, wants to prove himself at the club.”

We’ll know in a few weeks time.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a Carlton ploy to try to bump up his value a bit.
I just can’t reconcile the idea that he has a future at Carlton if Voss didn’t play him in that last round.

I'd like to know exactly what he plans on doing to fight his way into the senior team and why he didn't do those things this year.

Yep, I love the attitude as well. You want players who are willing to fight for a position. He hasn't sooked up or dropped the lip. He goes out most weeks, cops a heavy tag and fights his way through it.
It will make him a better and more resilient player, whether he's at Carlton in 2024 or not.

Where I'm coming from is what he was doing this season clearly wasn't working. Not sooking it up doesn't give you a game. Getting 30 touched at 40% efficiency doesn't get you a game. When you do finally get a game, ball watching doesn't keep you in the side. Refusing to apply any defensive pressure at all doesn't keep you in the side.
So the question remains. What's he going to do in 2023 and why didn't he do it in 2022?
If anyone offers anything decent take it and run.

Unfortunately, this is how I see Paddy now, too.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I agree with mick and BV in the sense that it's nice that he has a good attitude and wants to work his way into the team. But I just don't see it anymore.

Would love to be proven wrong though.

I will add that I see their point too but that isn't enough. It would be fair to say the coaching staff gave him clear instructions what was expected of him. The fact they chose to not play him would suggest he failed to meet those expectations. On the 2 occasions he was given an opportunity, he was dropped the following week showing he didn't take his opportunity when given.
He's had his chances. Times up I'm afraid.
