Austin is combing the country to improve the wing position.

Port's Amon was on our radar till he was asking too much

Crow's Lachie Sholl, I suspect still on our radar.

Now we have added Freo's Blake Acres to Austin's list of wing possibilities

Quote:
Carlton is at the front of the queue for Fremantle’s Blake Acres.

That is according to Western Australian journalist Kim Hagdorn who is reporting that the Blues have “jumped to the front of the race” for the Dockers wingman.

Acres, 26, is out of contract this year and is yet to re-sign with Freo as Victorian clubs circle.

Hagdorn says other clubs are offering the former Saint lengthier and more lucrative contracts than the Dockers which could lead to his exit.

“Blake Acres looks more likely to take a deal elsewhere,” Hagdorn said on SEN WA Drive.

“There’s several deals on offer, three and some of four years, for Blake Acres to leave Fremantle.

“He could well be going to Carlton. They’ve jumped to the front of the race for Blake Acres.”

Acres has been in superb form in 2022, enjoying arguably a career-best season on the wing.

A 6 foot wingman would be nice. Acres is 191cm or 6'2"

I feel Austin and Voss are clear of the holes on our list and will fill some this year's Trade/ Draft/DFA period.

How long you got?

Oversaw the Masons v Catholic split in the test team

As a Protestant he disliked O’Reilly (catholic) for their drinking

Totally against players being paid by sponsors yet happily ignored that rule for himself

Was the key opponent in the board to WSC.

Best line was “he had an inferiority complex except when he had a bat in his hand”

There’s plenty of articles/videos online about how his teammates didn’t like him as a person and how the 1970s mutiny (WSC) was a direct result of his approach and attitude as an administrator. Everyone admired and respected him as a cricketer, but it seems he wasn’t the most popular guy among those he worked with.

No need to apologise, you didn't do anything wrong.

I was just interested to hear some stories, as I'd only ever heard about the on field stuff.

Thanks all for the responses.

BB you need to listen to Ian Chapel talk about the negotiations/discussions he had with the DON prior to WSC. Not very flattering.

Is he still like royalty in Castlemaine?

Probably.

Austin combing the country to improve wing position, followed by names of Acres, sholl and Amon ,very poor recruiting if he lands one of those blokes,i could that and i am blue collar worker. Go and find a young player yourself Austin ,so far he has recruited 3 doggie players(hayes, young, boyd) compare him to coll recruiter .

Then only real thing wrong with our list is that they cannot stay fit.

If they did, we would be top 2.

Easily.

Big tick for Acres. Had really emerged this year as a consistent footballer.

Good news about Charlie. Seems like the players are happy at the club and are re-signing long term contracts.
The only doubts I have about this one is the length of it. While he has been sensational this year and is one of a few that have managed to play every game he had those two years out with his knee.
Lets hope he can have a good run at it now.
