Having one of your sons drafted to one of the most successful clubs in VFL/AFL history(who knows what the future will bring, but I was rapt the day Andy was drafted to the Carlton Blues).

That's one of the best things I've ever read on this site.

A mate of mine has wondered how I would cope if my son was drafted to say Essendon*. Answer - not very well!

The same mate used to work with Matthew Lloyds old man (who many would know played for Carlton) and always wanted to ask him if it made him feel sick sitting amongst the Essendon* faithful each week.

Heats, it made him sick, but he grins and bears it. Had one at Hawthorn, one at the Bummers, and the other one wasn't good enough to leave Avondale Heights (Essendon* District Football League)... He wanted one at Carlton badly...

DOA, your son is a champ, and we are honoured top have him at the club, and this isn't arse-kissing, I genuinely like the boy!

If we relocated to Carins I would be wrapped. I'd more there in a hearbeat. And I daresay fullmont may follow.

Shit yeah. I'd move back to Townsville in a second.

Other than that, the thing I wouldn't change would be the full CFC monogram..

PS.

The colour of the guernsey.

I was for an alternate strip, but if they change to another colour that isn't Navy Blue we might as well try to buy North.

Again.

Carlton Blues. If we merged I'd seriously consider changing clubs.

While there is no denying a merger would suck the big one, I reckon I could cope with it … eventually. Well, I guess it depends on how the merger happened, but I reckon having a merged club is better than no club.

And even though I said my "one thing" would be the CFC and the navy jumper, when we finally adopt an away strip, I couldn't arsed if it was green with pink polka dots, it's only an away strip, which would get used maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

We are the green-and-pinks...

It's funny, I was thinking about this thread last night and wondered how the song would change if our guernsey changed to pink and green...Great Minds, huh? :-D

Oh, and I'd hate it if that fact that CFC existed changed too.

I have thought about this very subject many times and wondered what if?

1. Vlad the Impaler found another way to ping us.

2. Finances just don't improve and we slip further into debt.

3. Onfield fortunes take a lot longer than we expect.

4. We continue to get minimal FTA exposure (affecting sponsorship). :(

5. Any of the above combined could force our hand.

I know we have a fantastic Membership and contary to what some narrowminded posters think about Carlton being a Melbourne club only, we have enjoyed National support only equalled by Collingwood. Until recently we held the ground attendance records at most major AFL venues. Local Derbies and Showdowns have put paid to that honour, but for an interstate club at Subiaco, Football Park, SCG and the Gabba we always packed them in. Sellouts weeks before. Fortunately (jointly with the Pies) we still hold that at the MCG and that will never be broken. I believe a survey taken about 3 years ago revealed that we have over a half million supporters. From the Barrassi years through to just recently, we were the benchmark and Supporters stuck and not jumped on the new local team bandwagon. EG: I live in Brisbane and have always dreamed of having a local team in the big league. I have been a rabid Blue since the middle 60's and when it finally came about, did I jump ship to the Yogi Bears/Brions? No Friggin way!! I have stuck through thick and thin and squillions of others have too.

Our famous club will see this rotten time dissipate sooner than some people think. We will be back very soon, BUT what if?

Current Constants:

Club Name: Carlton Football Club
Founded: 1864
Nickname: Blues
Colour: Dark Navy Blue
Logo: White CFc Monogram
Home Ground: Princes Park
Club Song. Lilly of Laguna (Tune)
Senior Premierships: 6 in VFA era, 15 VFL and 1 AFL

History can't be changed, but the future may be out of our control. I wouldn't like to see relocation, merging or any of the other yukky options, but could tolerate any of these situations if we still retained part of our identity. Which bit is that you may well ask? :P

Assuming we had to play x number of games elsewhere. With plenty of games in Melbourne and TV coverage, not really a big problem. :-D

Assuming we had to adopt a different theme song. Can't imagine, but who knows a stirring maybe modern battle cry might be good. :)

Assuming we had to change to the Canberra Blues/Carrara Blues, Carlton Kangas or the Melbourne Blues etc. I could live with that. :?

Assuming we had to add other colours to the strip. Maybe the Navy becomes lighter in shade or we gotta add a red stripe or some animal to the jumper design. I might even be able to put up with that. :?

The one constant for me is the monogram. That unbelievable, fantastic, incredible, historic, CFc just has to survive. Which ever version you like, it don't matter it just has to survive in some form. Personally I like the 3D one from recent years the best.

What think you kiddies? 8)

We lived in both Qld. and Sydney for three years due to business demands.

There were no VFL/AFL teams then; so I got engrossed with Rugby League; if for no other reason but it was good for business.

I followed Coorparoo however in the local Brisbane comp. and enjoyed that; and of course there were the Ch.7 "Match of the day" direct telecasts of the then VFL every Saturday afternoon.

Thru all of that we were and stlll are Carlton Supporters, and being a long way from the action never ever dimmed our love for this great Club.
