I don't think I overrate O'brien. I defend him against detractors who seem determined to present him as completely without merit, but have always acknowledged that his uncertainty under pressure is a big weakness (albeit one that experience will help with). My main reason for wanting him in the team is that his strengths are in areas we are lacking - endurance, foot speed, (mostly) accurate and deep kicking. The last thing I want is him to be replaced with someone who's slow or can't kick or can't run out a game, just because he gets stuck in.

No Hewett and No Kennedy means we are Screwed before the game starts......

Who will get the hard balls for us? who will put his head down? will Dow finally come of age? will someone else stand up in the middle?

Its always nice to dream but the reality is, we are going to get smacked and smashed in the middle.... NO chance :(

Its going to be left to Cripps and Walsh to win 80 possessions, hopefully this time there to take advantage of them.

Setterield and Silvagni can help out Cripps and release Walsh with Cerra on the outside to run and carry.

I really am 'off' Setterfield, LOB and Plowman, but grateful we have them on our list when the cupboard is bare.

Did anyone see Dow's last 3 games in the VFL? Heavily tagged and not finding a way to break it.

Yes Geelong have become better this year around the contest but that wouldn’t occur without Atkins and Holmes. Both were rookie picks

issac smith never gets mentioned. Toohey as a running, high half back who can play a midfielders type of role and kick goals.

Dow won't be tagged in the AFL, not yet anyway.

So you're defending O'Brien against detractors by bagging his possible replacement. Based upon an opinion from some nameless guys on a podcast somewhere.
Even though you have "No idea whether their assessment of the 2nds is accurate" :?

On the Hayes or LOB qn, I listened to a podcast where they reckoned Hayes has played more of an inside role in the 2nds and so his instinct is to be drawn into the contest while LOB is more of a pure outside player. So while Hayes gets more of the pill, he's not getting into the positions to do damage. So those guys felt LOB was better for team shape even though Hayes looks like he's doing more. No idea whether their assessment of the 2nds is accurate but might explain why his performance in the 1sts underwhelmed.

You got a problem with me mate?

The snippet you quoted at top wasn't directed at Hayes - it wasn't even from the same post! - it was more about the random nominations we see to play anyone on the wings other than those who have played the role for Carlton Football Club before. Silvagni and Marchbank being this week's specials.

Am I expected to agree with everything you post?
Did I miss the memo?

Plus Holmes was a first rounder (pick 20)

:?
You repeatedly post against O'Briens "detractors" and then tell us his possible replacement isn't suitable based upon some crap you heard on a nameless podcast.
By all means defend O'Brien but don't expect us to accept a counter view presented from a podcast that just isn't true.

Hayes has played significantly more on the wing in the 2nds than midfield. Austin said he has played wing and was drafted to play wing.
So I'm letting you know that its misinformation and shouldn't be used as credible information to "detract" from Hayes' bona fides.

If you think that is a personal attack, you need to harden up. I'm happy to debate the point and don't "Foe" posters. That's a weak option.

Back to the footy the ins and outs should be straight forward

Martin for Durdin
Dow for Kennedy
Marchbank for Newman

SOS or Setterfield the sub

I think we will get flogged weight of numbers through injury finally taking its toll

Don't rub it in surrey.

I couldn't believe Carlton supporters were booing Tuohy when we played Geelong.
Like Josh Kennedy, he didnt want to leave Carlton, but SOS's contract offer deterred Tuohy to sign on with Carlton.

Sad

Dow won't be tagged in the AFL, not yet anyway.

I hope I’m wrong but I think with these additional injuries we are cooked.

I think it’s just a constant build up of the injuries that has worn us down. I doubt we have had one game where we are picked our best 22/23 players.

Dow has to play this week, and setterfield needs to play in the Kennedy role.

I am very worried about our midfield rhis week.
