BV made a comment about Geel playing their hand and backing themselves to not have other teams 'better it'

Agree

I am not going to debate all the stats that tell us Geel have been the best performed side lately BUT my gut feel is that they have peaked early

I may be in the minority but I refuse to accept the fact Geel won just because they're more matured, well drilled and overall more skillful...I freaking well knew that before the game...I didn't need a loss to confirm it or use it as an excuse

Prior to the game, I believed that if brought something between average and our best, it would be a close game that could go either way

We were deplorable, and I'm not including plays where Geel pressured us...we were deplorable all over the ground, including the coaches box with or without pressure

Our forwards, apart from Charlie were insipid
Our defenders couldn't adjust to any moves involving taking Weitering out of the game and rattled themselves
Our mids continue to be a problem and were soundly beaten by theirs...was it effort, set ups, poor disposal coming out of defence or going I50
Our gameplan reduced the G to kardinia Park...rarely transitioned on the 45 and widening the ground

Geelong have peaked.

I agree

Good onya 99.

I want to play them again…in any final. They can’t afford to miss a GF, and that will also play with their heads. They are not Carlton circa 1995 despite the similar age profiles. Bring them on. We learned a lot from that game. One is to not pass the ball to a player in the wrong jumper

Back to the humans on TC…well we are everyday people…with a view point…such a view point where the glass half full are right…for sake of sanity or just right.

We are Carlton @#$%&! the rest. We are allowed to be wrong and offer food for debate, or something like that

I agree with a lot of what you say 99prelim. They made us make a fair share of mistakes, but a lot of our decisions under minimal pressure were just screwed.

I am not sure.
I had a similar issue earlier in the year. I have a 7 year old grandson who I signed up as a member when he was born. My daughter and I were going to take him to a game and we had no idea what to do. Luckily he said he didn't want to go after all. Ring the club and they will be able to help.

Yep phoned the club & got it sorted. They had to link us on the app

Thank flower they're doing away with that next year.

Are you wanting to upgrade to reserves seats?

I haven't used the app for that because I find it much easier via a browser.

While he sprays the odd kick, overall his kicking has been excellent this year. He, Newman, Plowman and Weiters tend to take tough kicks. Weiters is next level and for the most part Newman and Plowman get good return on their attacking kicks. Gov rivals Weiters in that department so along with reading the play better than most, that part has also been lost.

I think this has been a problem for a while, it’s just exasperated against the good teams

99Prelim I'm sorry but I disagree. You yourself identified that we sucked in just about every respect. I think it'll be really hard to turn all those things around. Effort can be changed overnight but structural issues can't and I think if we play them again in Sept (and even that is a stretch IMO, I mean we are likely to be knocked out in the first week based off recent form) chances are we will still see many of the structural problems we saw last weekend. It takes time to bed in game plans. So it takes time to adjust. I hope I'm wrong though.

How did we turn things around against Freo then?

My take is the season and many sides are extremely even. We couldn't have played worse last week against a seasoned side that will punish mistakes. We didn't have many winners on the night yet only lost by 5 goals. They were at full strength apart from Stewart and we missed Pittonet McGovern Owies Boyd & Williams.

We are a long way from perfect but on our day we can beat anyone because we have so many matchwinners. Our game plan has improved dramatically but still not "bedded" in. I see lots of improvement to come

Several list changes and another pre season and I expect a lot of improvement in 2023 but there is still a lot to happen this year. Get close to our best side on the park, a break just before finals and anything can happen

I think we will win and win easily this weekend

Our side this week could be something like

B: Docherty Young McGovern
HB: Cottrell Weitering Saad
C: Setterfield Cripps O'Brien
HF: Cerra McKay Fisher
F: Silvagni Curnow Motlop
Foll: Pittonet Hewett Walsh
Int: Kennedy Durdin TDK Newman (Stocker)

IMO that's only missing Williams Owies Boyd maybe Martin from our Best 22 and probably our best line up all year

PS any word on TDK? Looked very sore at end of game

Personally I’d have Stocker in defence, Cottrell on a wing and Setterfield (or Newnes/Dow) as sub.

Setterfield into the 22 if SOJ or TDK need a rest.

S.Durdin or Kemp in if Weitering is no good.

C.Durdin needs a decent game or he could make way for Honey or Owies next week.

Hmm on your first point, I would argue that Geelong are a defense first side and those sides often don't win by massive margins.

I am sure they have some big wins over the recent journey but by and large a defense first team winning by 30 points is actually a comprehensive win for them

We never looked like winning after the first quarter

No, but SOS did in the last 2 games. He needs a rest

And agree next year we will challenge for top 4 as a goal.

North Melb win
WCE wins
Or should I say thrashings…..helps they got teams at their lowest

With McGovern back & Marchbank fit can we play Marchbank as a genuine tall wingman

Have a look at his junior review

https://www.afl.com.au/news/446447/25-d ... -marchbank

"Because of his size (193cm/85kg) and ability to move across the ground, some clubs view him as a tall midfielder at the next level. With his ball handling, smarts and strong marking, you can't pigeonhole Marchbank into one spot"

Was just about to ask the same thing.
Can Marchy play wing?
